Voters reject Christian-themed water park

There's a headline you don't often see in Texas.

Brazoria (Texas) voters on May 9 rejected a $1.75 million bond referendum that would have funded a Christian-themed water park. Brazoria is a town about 60 miles south of Houston.

It was a pretty small turnout in the town of only 3,000 people, but normally you would expect the fundies to turn out en masse. Instead, out of about 400 votes cast (yeah, about 15%), the referendum was rejected by a 70-30 margin.

I'll take those small wins any day.

Original is here.

You want a Christian-themed water park? Build it yourself and don't expect public money! Duh!

water park? I think if it passed, the people could have bought it to a higher court.

And just in passing, I had a friend who grew up a Baptist in Texas and she was not allowed to wear a bathing suit - so it would have had to be male only water park if fundie.

I think it's the public funding of it that voters rejected. Some people vote against anything they think will raise their taxes.

They would probably love to have a water park, and Christian-themed would be fine too, I'm sure, if it were totally funded by private money.

I guess the "taxed enough already" crowd overpowered the "Christians need a water park" crowd.

I am not sure how this would even be legal, majority voting for it or not. Like we don't "give" enough tax money to religions just by not taxing them.

THat would be really boring, you'd just be walking all over, giant spiral staircases, really steep ramps, a lazy pathway...

Plaster Jeebus and other christian symbols all over the public domain - fine, other people make the stuff and install it, it's free.

Expect me to shill out mega bucks for a water park?

Hell no!
