Chuck Colson near death.

G. Gordon Liddy already wrote his epitaph, years ago: "Chuck Colson said he would walk over his own grandmother for Richard Nixon. So just imagine what he would do for Jesus."

Colson's been near death since the weekend. An LBN thread about him quickly got jammed up with the usual glurge about how Colson "had turned his life around," "done wonderful things with his prison ministry," etc. And the usual squawkings about "not speaking ill of the dead."

Well, I don't mind speaking ill of the dead (or near-dead).

I often caught Colson's little 5-minute drive-time sermonettes, Break Point, on the local Fundie station.

So I feel pretty confident in reporting - Colson was exactly the same mean-hearted shithead today as he was during the Watergate years.

His Break Point screeds usually had little to do with religion. Most often they were straight-out political attacks on Obama, Democrats, liberals, women...and of course those evil hard-headed secularists who refuse to admit America is, was and has always been a Xian nation.

His "prison ministry" was always begging for money, so I suspect it was just a big ol' cash cow for him. Aside from Colson's name and notoriety, it didn't seem any different from the hundreds of other Xian prison ministries.

I do vaguely remember one anecdote about a "militant Black Muslim" prisoner who switched to Jebus, thanks to Colson's ministry. But since these instructive little parables never feature names or anything else verifiable, I put them in the same category as Bigfoot sightings and alien anal probes.

They were often vile, and their defining viewpoint, it seemed to me, was not the professed "christ-centered" worldview as frequently as it was simply an anti-liberal/progress worldview.

One of those assholes who think Jeebus is a Republican.

Hurry up and die already, quit wasting your family's money.

One who personally passes judgment on the deceased. I have to figure that as I myself head toward the brimstone, poisonous hypocritical theocratic fucktards like him would whistle past me at supersonic speeds aimed at the deepest circles of Hell. It would be worth making the trip to see the stunned look of outraged betrayal, with a soupcon of holier than thou even after facing the Almighty, on their faces as they flickered past me into the abyss.
