Related: About this forumGot hidden because I said Allah has big ears!
And posted a pic of Alfred E Newman. plus Pinocchio with asses ears.
They said Allah "hears all" so.... that was my interpretation of such a statement. Especially since it was also stated "Any 8 year old Muslim could tell you Allah hears all". If you're 8, sure! But if you're an adult... I mean really!
This was after some horrifying exchange between a Sikh and a Christian, where they blithely wondered about Muslims , their god, your god, my god. And all with Kum-ba-ya calmness and mater-o-fact-ness. Completely unaware of the absurdity and childishness of the whole business. I got hidden because pointing this out musta upset some people. Awwww. too bad.
I AM insulted that adults would calmly act like this and expect other adults to take them seriously. I think their posts should be hidden! But, y'know, hiding posts is just childish in the 1st place.

Anyone who get so upset over such things however....
Should I get all upset because you think I'm an idiot and have your hurtful post hidden????
(except it's not hurtful)
Poor put upon religionists! They can dish it out but can't take it.

Hearing, speaking and knowing are biological actions that require organs to do them. So it's a metaphor or something when god does it....but what does it MEAN then? Explain. If it hasn't to do with ears, mouths and brains, what is it?
Too often these notions championed by religionists go unchallenged as to what they even MEAN!
If I give my

We know they don't mean my literal heart.... so break it down. What does all this stuff REALLY mean? Can religionists explain?

(9,356 posts)No pun intended.
And my post about famous Fundie Xian art criminal/adulterer/drunk Thomas Kink-ade got locked. As "off-topic."
This, by a host who loves to start threads with one line of a hymn, and other believers respond. Speaking of tedious Kum-ba-yah bullshit.
That would be the host also known as Googlus Maximus, for their incredible nit-picking/parsing of all posts by non-believers.
Example: "You DO know that Jonestown happened WAY BACK IN 1978, so it has NO RELATION to our modern Xian Sumphisticated Theology..." (And Rev. Jim Jones wasn't a True Xian anyway. In fact, he was known as a very liberal Xian...which is exactly why he had so much political cover in San Francisco.)
I've had a busy weekend completing a big eBay sale and doing other stuff, so I haven't looked into The Other (Ways-of-Knowing) Group very much. I'm sure it's rolling along pretty much as usual, though.

(6,452 posts)I argued in the Hosts group for your post to be unlocked. They ignored me.
Agree that this has nothing to do with religion and support lock.

1. You saw that some of us already asked for it to be changed or moved.
Hopefully the poster will comply.

2. poster claims connection is artist's alleged habit of inserting fish or scripture reference into painting. i'm not competent to judge the claim but find it inadequate anyway to justify the thread. recommend locking if poster does not self-delete promptly

These posts listed below also only have a tangential relationship to "religion and theology", yet they were allowed to stay. Where is the line being drawn? Seems pretty fuzzy to me.

Posting about the behavioral problems by a man that is held up by many fundamentalists as an example of the shining light of Christianity is as least as topical as posts about guns, a movie or beer.
(FWIW, I'm not saying that any of those posts should have been locked. Just that Onager's post shouldn't have.)

8. With regard to my posts, that you cite here as inappropriate:

(1) Ryokan was a famous Zen monk, and the poem by Ryokan is about a Zen priest. It further expresses a definite point of view from Ryokan about what he thinks it means to really be a Buddhist. So the religious dimension of the poem seems clear enough to me. And IIRC nobody ever alerted on it

(2) Pussy Riot is on trial in Moscow, for interrupting a religious service, in order to call attention to their own political views. It seems to me that interrupting a religious service, in order to call attention to one's own political views, is an entirely appropriate topic for the religion forum on a political bulletin board: it always raises all manner of issues: this case (in particular) raises the question of proportionality of state response. Again IIRC nobody ever alerted on it

9. I'll repeat what I said
I don't think that any of those posts should have been locked. While they may only have a tangential relationship to religion and theology in the US, they provide interesting distractions from the regular stuff posted in the Religion group. I saw Onager's post the same way, especially considering Kinkade's stature in the American religious community.
Bottom line: if Onager's post should be locked, there are a heckuva lot of other posts that don't exactly fit the SoP.
As an aside: the fact that the Religion hosts left the "rape the skepchick" post up, even though it had zero to do with religion, is illustrative of the problem I see here.

(9,356 posts)And I really appreciate the support.
I don't see anything that surprises me too much, except this: poster claims connection is artist's alleged habit of inserting fish or scripture reference into painting.
Good grief! No, poster claimed Kinkade was a well-known Fundie Xian. And provided umpteen links to news stories, Wikipedia, etc., proving that.
Back in April, I originated the thread about his death. With the Subject line - "Painter of Blight Croaks." There were some gripes about it being "disrespectful," but it didn't get locked AFAIK.
