FULL MOON ON THE SPRING EQUINOX

A SUPERMOON ON THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING!

'This is one of those rare years when the full Moon lands right smack on the spring equinox—on March 20, 2019, in North America. This only happens three times a century, on average. Plus, it’s the third and final “supermoon.” Enjoy the extra-bright equinox full moon Wednesday night!'

I might have missed it otherwise. We're enjoying a rare string of clear days and nights so fingers crossed for another on the 20th.

The vernal equinox will occur at 5:58 PM, EDT, and the full moon will follow at 9:43 PM, EDT. The rules for determining the date for Easter include fixing the first day of spring at March 21, even in years such as 2019 when the vernal equinox arrives on March 20. Therefore, this year, Easter will have to wait until after next month's full moon which will occur on April 19.
