Thune, Daugaard: Trump should withdraw from presidential race after sexist remarks
Top Republican officials from South Dakota, including high-ranking U.S. Sen. John Thune and Gov. Dennis Daugaard, have made public calls for GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump to remove himself from consideration for president.
The two top state Republicans made their views known in posts on Twitter on Saturday, calling for Trump to end his presidential bid a month before the election after crude remarks by Trump a decade ago surfaced in a video on Friday.
"Donald Trump should withdraw and Mike Pence should be our nominee effective immediately," Thune said on Twitter.
According to the website Politico, Thune was among the first top Senate Republicans to abandon Trump, a potentially crippling blow for Trump's support in Congress.
