Japan author’s decluttering book tops U.S. best-seller list

NEW YORK – The English version of a Japanese book on how to declutter rooms topped U.S. newspaper USA Today’s weekly best-seller list on Thursday.

“It took 60 weeks, but Japan’s Marie Kondo is finally queen of USA Today’s Best Selling Books list,” the major U.S. daily said.

The decluttering book, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” was first published in Japan in December 2010 and its English edition hit U.S. shelves in October 2014.

More than 1.6 million copies have since been sold in the United States, and the book has been translated in more than 30 countries.

She declutters the concept of decluttering, in a way. Basically, gather all your items in one place category by category, so you see them all, then pick each time up one by one to feel whether it sparks joy. Keep what sparks joy and pretty much clear out the rest, unless it's actually needed.

Simple, sensible and painless. Helped my mom let go of about 40 plastic planter containers this way.
