Terunofuji wins the May Grand Sumo Tournament

The Mongolian born Rikishi was prompted to Ozeki after winning the March tournament. He defeated Ozeki Takakeisho in a play off match after Takakeisho had beaten him in the final match of the tournament. This tied their win/loss record and forced a play off match for the Championship.

With Asanoyama’s troubles, Terunofuji might just be the next Yokozuna. He has been fierce!

But, I have a feeling they will favor promoting a Japanese wrestler before a Mongolian wrestler. It’s hard to say, though, because Asanoyama really messed up and it was totally self-inflicted. I had been thinking Asanoyama’s promotion up to Yokozuna was a sure thing by the end of the year, or even sooner, but now...??

Was glad to see my guy Ichinojo have a good tournament, as well.
Hokutofuji, not so much. Sigh.

Big props to Endo! Did he win the Fighting Spirit prize? I was pretty busy at work all weekend, only got to watch highlights and haven’t yet seen if any special prizes were awarded.
