If people want to create their own version of BS logos, or grab prints, they're everywhere.

Having them stored for easy access promotes the loss of IP control and the lost of centralized purchasing.

Sure, if it is a government related document, it should be free. But even government depts. control the use of logos.

From the article:
Why in the name of all that is sane and electable would the campaign for a presidential hopeful try to stop people from reproducing its campaign materials? It is literally the most dunderheaded, anti-electable tactic I can imagine in a twenty-first-century political campaign.

The firm thinks they are doing good work but is fucking stupid as all get out.

I expect to see some heads roll and a real apology.

Here's the articles for both Bernie and Metallica:

You can read the full takedown letter here, sent by a redacted lawyer at Garvey Schubert Barer, a firm that claims to have expertise in intellectual property law. If that's true, they sure don't show it in this letter. First of all, they're sending a DMCA notice, which only applies to copyright, but posting campaign logos is hardly copyright infringement. When you're talking about logos, at best you're talking trademark, but that's not an issue here either. Whether it's trademark or copyright, Wikimedia hosting campaign logos is clearly fair use. If they're really arguing copyright, then it's an easy fair use call. If it's trademark, there's no "use in commerce" on the Wikimedia side, and no likelihood of confusion. Either one is simply stupid to argue.

There's nothing that shows this is Bernie's lawyer. This could very easily be just more dirty politics in an attempt to discredit him.
It's also strange that the lawyer is based in Seattle Washington, instead of, say, Vermont or Washington DC.

It isn't exactly clear how the Sanders campaign made the decision to get its materials off Wikipedia, but the decision clearly wasn't made by some overzealous, little-known volunteer. The attorney who authored the DMCA notice had his name redacted by Wikimedia, but the firm responsible is Seattle-based Garvey Schubert Barer. That's the same firm that handled Sanders' high-profile but short-lived lawsuit against the Democratic National Committee.

Nonetheless, Sanders' team — represented by attorneys Benjamin Lambiotte and Sean Griggin of Washington lawfirm Garvey Schubert Barer — was still weighing its legal options late into Friday night. Fallon, in a statement released late Friday, had urged the court to resolve the situation swiftly.

The assumption that he's somehow directly involved, not only has no legs, but it just doesn't pass the sniff test.
More to the point; there's no evidence that the lawyer acted at Bernie's direction.

On the other hand, it's exceedingly common for lawyers to jump-the-shark in this manner... especially when dealing with intellectual properties. So, the scenario you claim has no legs, is actually very likely the case. It's so common, in fact, that a whole industry of IP trolling cropped up, and laws were needed to stifle such actions. Were the rolls switched, and it was a lawyer for hillary doing this, I'd say the same.

It's crazy. All my life, single payer, universal healthcare has been a Democratic platform plank. Now? Nope. Forget it. Too hard. We have access to insurance we can't afford to actually use so STFU and vote for the big D. Oh, and get back to work while we dismantle SS, Medicare and anything else the Inevitable One deems "radical" or "dangerous", i.e. anything that reduces corporate profit.

Sure would be interesting to comb the DU archives to find all the traditional Democratic support for universal coverage to comapre and contrast to today's demonization of it. Astounding and another reason the Democratic "Party" is shrinking.
