Related: About this forumHillary Clinton Laughs When Asked if She Will Release Transcripts of Her Goldman Sachs Speeches
(The Intercept) After Hillary Clinton spoke at a town hall in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Friday, I asked her if she would release the transcripts of her paid speeches to Goldman Sachs. She laughed and turned away.
Clinton has recently been on the defensive about the speaking fees she and her husband have collected. Those fees total over $125 million since 2001.
Her rival Democratic presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders, has raised concerns in particular over the $675,000 she made from Goldman Sachs, an investment bank that has regularly used its influence with government officials to win favorable policies.

During one of her paid speeches to Goldman Sachs, Clinton reportedly reassured the crowd and told them that banker-bashing was unproductive and foolish, according to a Politico report based on accounts offered by several attendees. ............(more)

(11,945 posts)That's it. Hillary does, Biden does. I wonder if O'Malley does? Warren probably doesn't, but she seems to have inroads that Bernie never pursued.
I wonder if Bernie has thought of it in these terms? He probably has, but with his amazing courage and inner certitude simply keeps pushing onward. There is something heroic about him for doing this when so many others are afraid to.
This may be the key to breaking it open: find ways to tell the people what's going on, how tptb operate. Bernie's been doing it in straightforward, simplistic terms by simply giving the public statistics about income disparity, etc. and telling them who some of the power holders are and how we can dismantle them in an orderly way, using our own government.
Is there enough time to tell the majority of the people before the elections? There must be a way.
Sorry for all the musing; the concept of getting "permission" from the banks opened it for me.

(11,945 posts)Bernie is in a distinct minority with this knowledge.
I loved it when he said in one the debates that "Government doesn't regulate Wall Street, Wall Street regulates government." I hope that was an eye-opener for all the people listening out there. Hmm, wonder if that could be one of the reasons DWS wanted to limit his exposure?
What boggles my mind is the sheer number of D. C. power players who are totally bought. Hillary is just one of them -- although for a Democrat, she seems more bought than most.

(6,145 posts)I get the feeling the Hillary of $2700 a place fundraisers and private speeches to banks is much more consistent. That's most likely the real Hillary and she doesn't want us to see it or hear it.
I somehow doubt she talks about "toppling the 1%" in THESE speeches.

(3,111 posts)I've been tempted to post several times the 10 hour version of Hillary's laugh you can find on the Web.
However, I just can't do it. Seems like a cheap shot, and goodness knows, I'm in favor of laughter.
I just wish it didn't seem so forced and inauthentic much of the time. I wish she didn't do it in the middle of being asked about things that seem very unfunny like her Goldman Sachs speeches or attacking Iran. There is a discomfort there, for viewer and perhaps for her as well, that's really kind of eery.
As much as I know we need a Democrat in the White House, I really hope I don't have to hear this for eight years.

(2,161 posts)She can't get the votes of OWS and their supporters, whether it be in the primary or November.
Making a speech to Goldman Sachs for $250,000 in 2013 was a clear middle finger to OWS from Hillary. Stupid, arrogant, obnoxious move for someone planning to run for president as a Democrat.
I'm irritated that the Democratic Establishment has lined up behind a clear loser. If Democrats want to have any chance of winning, we must nominate Bernie.
