Related: About this forumAnnnnd the Headline on CNN:
"Bernie Sanders: 'We Will Raise Taxes." (And nothing after that. They sort of forgot about the offset parts.) CNN, owned by Time-Warner, a large contributor to the Clinton campaign.

There - not so hard, more accurate and still short enough for a headline.

(4,387 posts)...based on his current released figures (all I can use), my family stands to save about $4,400/year.

(41,960 posts)And that is a big factor in how taxation will work. It's not simple, as I'm sure you know.
A Little Weird
(1,754 posts)I actually have pretty decent, affordable insurance and it still estimates that I would save over $2000 and my employer over $9000!

(11,366 posts)I can't help it that our idiotic news media can't read a proposal or use a calculator.
(Not your fault, of course, but try the calculator the other poster linked to. It really is eye opening. I'm one of the lucky few whose company pays my health insurance premiums, even though I have high co-pays and deductibles, and I STILL save nearly $1,000 a year. My company would save about $9,000!! Businesses should LOVE this plan!)

I hit their Tweet and changed their suggestion to: "@CNNPolitics conveniently forgets to mention that we'll no longer be paying out the nose for healthcare premiums."

(18,115 posts)There used to be a thing, of which we were proud to be, a "tax and send liberal." It is how we provide for the people.
Thank you, Bernie, for not shying away and not hiding because the republicans have made social services a bad word.
This not a bad thing for our party and it needed to be out front. More sunlight on the issue works in Bernie's favor.
TCJ70
(4,387 posts)...go into the removal of premiums as an offset. It's a clickbait headline but will unfortunately misinform more than inform.

Same principle applies -- what matters is the difference in after-tax after-healthcare income.
DanTex

(6,282 posts)Also, making more money always increases the percentage of gross income paid -- that's the nature of a progressive tax system.

(20,709 posts)Bernie wants to raise taxes, he gets to own it. I'm not sure why Bernie fans want CNN to repeat his propaganda.

The word taxes has become poisonous. As soon as he said it, I knew this would happen. People hear that word and they shut down.
