Who would you want as Bernie VP or as Hillary VP?

Bernie's pick in particular will be an interesting balancing act. And would Hillary reach to the left or right, male or female?

Don't say we'll never know. Who would be wise choices to enhance the Democratic ticket?

Bernie will have to appeal to mainstream voters. Will he pick someone in or outside of DC?

From NYTimes:

For the Democrats, Julián Castro and Martin O’Malley were most frequently named for the V.P. spot. Others mentioned included Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey, Mr. Sanders, Joe Biden for a repeat performance, and Tim Kaine and Jim Webb, current and former senators from Virginia.

It's a good question.

I suspect Hillary will pick Julian Castro (she clearly doesn't listen to my advice, I've established that repeatedly this cycle) so for her the question is moot.

For Sanders, obviously I think Elizabeth Warren would be the best pick. I know she opted out this round, but if Hillary were defeated in the primaries maybe she would change her mind.

I thought the idea of a VP pick was to broaden your appeal? Geographically and ideologically.

I guess one exception was Clinton/Gore. But Bill Clinton never got 50% of the vote because of Ross Perot's run.

all that much for the ticket, although in some cases when it is so egregiously bad (think Palin) people may be somewhat influenced.

I'd like to see our party expand its bench beyond East Coast boomers, which is one reason why I mentioned Newsom (plus he's been ahead of the curve on marriage equality and marijuana legalization)... but Elizabeth Warren is such an undeniably powerful voice that I think any addition of her to the ticket would be a winner.

Plus we keep hearing about the supposed misogyny of everything Sanders, basically because he's running against Hillary, and she is a woman. And certainly many solid arguments have been made and continue to be made about the overdue importance of putting a woman in the White House.

Well, Sanders can't do anything about his own gender, but he could put a smart, capable, and well-respected woman who also happens to be a powerful voice on important reform issues on the ticket.

I'm kind of weighing in on the "one heartbeat away" however, with Hillary's health concerns...and they are real, especially for someone under the extreme pressure she will be under...his youth an inexperience bothers me. I know Obama brought him to DC for HUD as soon as this possibility came out some time ago.

As for Bernie, that's a tough one. I don't think EW is the right one. It's not something she really, really wants...nor does her family. And I know Massachusetts doesn't want to lose her. She has a Bully Pulpit in the Senate to support a Sanders Presidency, which of course she would.

I'd be more inclined to look for an O'Malley-type, if not him should he choose to accept. Yes, he's got baggage, but he'd do well and de-emphasize the age factor as he'd be more than capable of taking over should it be required. I've kind of thought that is why he is still in the race...getting national recognition, showing his skills, getting vetted to some extent. So, that would be my opinion.

At least O'Malley came out (so I heard...didn't see it) and tore off his jacket and rolled up his sleeves. I'm not going to tell you what my mental picture of that was.

Anyway, he's got the political chops and he can get people excited...ignore the above...and I'd love to see him as Bernie's VP. They would be an interesting contrast in styles but close enough politically to both spread the table and not be too close or too far away.

he ALWAYS removes it, and rolls up his shirt sleeves. Seems like it's his comfort zone.

He surely has political 'chops,' AND the executive experience MANDATORY in a successful EXECUTIVE office, which is why I support Martin O'Malley for PRESIDENT. I won't complain, tho, about your endorsement of him as Sanders' VP.

But historically, you have to broaden your appeal to get more than 50% of the popular vote. And the electoral college is a different story.

I think supporters are relying on his populist appeal to override precedent. And that may be so. I feel sure he won't choose Warren because she will be needed in the Senate - possibly as leader.

And he's a great campaigner...charming...adorable family...Tejano Hispanic. There are some down sides, but she could do way worse. And I think there is a compatibility there, as I saw a photo of them together before the primaries...which led me to do more research on him.

But if he doesn't show that on TV, then I'd temper my opinions.

It's just I read his family story...especially about his Mom...single since they were very young. Member of La Raza in LA. That was a secessionist group in the West fighting for Atzlan...the name they gave the territory that was Mexico before the US annexed it/fought them for it. So I guess that would make her an anarchist?

She came up from almost less than nothing to give these boys unimaginable opportunities and personalities to match. He hasn't had a lot of TV time...and he's young...which is one of my concerns. Obviously, Bernie is my first choice, but if Bernie isn't the Nominee, it would make my Hillary vote easier if Julian was on the ticket.

make it to any Democratic Convention this time around without Lots of Changes. I had mixed feelings watching again, and didn't go to the end. I remember what it said, and he's going to have to recreate or rephrase a lot of what he said on the Hillary Campaign Trail, if that's how it goes.

And Rosie...yes. What a lady. I think they showed his wife and daughter at the end, too. Hillary needs that kind of fresh energy...and being Tejano/bilingual doesn't hurt either.

I think that he has a political future if he doesn't jump the gun here. But as far as politics/i.e. geography and Hispanic and he was rushed to DC as Sec of HUD, he's a good bet for her VP.
