You heard it here first folks. Pack those progressive bags because Hillary Clinton said Single Payer will NEVER, EVER come to pass, so don't even think about it. She didn't just say it, she exclaimed it, as seen in the video
The swipe builds on Clinton's repeated rhetoric against the Vermont senator's proposed single-payer, Medicare-for-all health care plan that he proposed earlier this month. The plan would provide health coverage to all Americans but would be paid for by raising taxes on most Americans.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/29/politics/hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders-health-care/index.html
I just saw the video on CNN and she was YELLING it WILL NEVER, EVER PASS into the microphone. Really bizarre behavior, once I find it on youtube I'll post a link. Hillary 2016: No we can't!
Final edit: Going viral on Reddit, the video is now being dubbed the "Mean Scream"

(30,439 posts)Pelosi dismisses portions of Sanderss tax and health-care agenda: Its not going to happen
By Paul Kane January 27 at 4:06 PM
BALTIMORE House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) dismissed portions of Bernie Sanderss agenda Wednesday, welcoming the Vermont senators energetic support for his presidential bid but declaring that some of his deeply liberal ideas were unrealistic.
Kicking off a three-day retreat of House Democrats in her childhood home town, Pelosi said that the partys agenda would not include a call to raise taxes and would continue to embrace the Affordable Care Act that Democrats bitterly fought for in 2010. Pelosis remarks came two days after Sanders, in an Iowa town-hall gathering, explicitly endorsed higher taxes to fund a sweeping revision of health laws.
Were not running on any platform of raising taxes, Pelosi told reporters inside the Hyatt Regency in Baltimores Inner Harbor, less than a mile from her childhood home. While the liberal House leader has remained publicly neutral in the Democratic primary process, Pelosis position echoed some of the themes that former secretary of state Hillary Clinton has hit on in trying to say that Sanderss ideas, while appealing to liberals instincts, are out of touch in an era when Congress is so sharply divided.
She reiterated her previous remarks embracing Sanderss surge in recent weeks God bless all the people who have gotten enthusiastic but stressed that Sanders needs to bring those voters into the Democratic fold in the November general election.

I don't even wanna KNOW who's paid to keep Nancy's seat in DC, but I'd bet a buck to a donut that it wasn't her peon constituency. It's time for that revolution that Bernie speaks of. It's time to ditch CU and institute publicly funded elections. (42,862 posts)I'm glad that there are reasonable people such as yourself who can easily see what's possible, and understand what's futile, and what's (literally) a waste of time. There are so many other doable things that will improve people's lives NOW, why waste time and effort (ignoring all the doable things) on a Sisyphean task. Think of all the time that's been wasted by the Republicans on trying to repeal the ACA. Think of all the OTHER things that could have been done instead. I think we'd be wise to learn from the mistakes of the Republicans and focus on what has a realistic chance of being passed.

(1,825 posts)...not so much because you think it will pass straight away, but because you hope that it eventually passes.
I suspect that a number of improvements to society have come this way.
Even with regards to health care coverage, we recall that Obamacare just barely passed -- it might have been helped at least a little by the fact that Democrats since at least the early 90s were saying that the percentage of uncovered Americans was far too high. (That is, President Obama was seen as dealing with an ongoing, longstanding problem - not a new problem).

(4,407 posts)Well there's your problem!
Getting single-payer, along with a lot of other things that would really help the country, is something that will take time and effort. In effect, Hillary and Pelosi are saying it won't happen immediately, and they don't want to put any effort into making it happen so give up! I doubt either of them want it. Hillary, at least, has tied to the industry.
So basically, let's just do what Republicans want because it's too hard to fight for good things.

Of course you are not lying.I read the transcript too. And I believe that you believe that is what she meant when she said it too. But your interpretation of the statement is clearly colored with emotion.
But your post is very emphatic and accusatory, and it would be nice for those of us who do not genuflect at the altar of Bernie to actually see the video so we can judge for ourselves the meaning of what was said. It could be a reference to the fact that Sanders' plan doesn't actually work mathematically as opposed to an ideological pronouncement on Clinton's part, which is what you seem to be inferring. You know, it IS possible to support single-payer but not support Bernie Sanders' plan because math. Or to think that it won't work in the USA for various cultural and geographical reasons.
What I have learned from watching corporate media for low these many years is don't believe something just because someone said it. See for yourself Plus it is frustrating because I really do want to see it now that you built it up so much.

(11,243 posts)I see your point, but you could also read it as saying that people with medical emergencies cannot wait for a theoretically better but at this point completely unworkable new system to come into being. Particularly those with serious medical concerns.
This worries me too when Sanders talks about trashing ACA and all private insurance. Great! I HATE my insurance company. So much. And it will be easy to get rid of ACA since GOP hates it too. But how do we get the single-payer? The math on his plan does not work and GOP has control of Congress. So I fear that it just puts us back to square one after all the political sweat and blood it took to even get the ACA passed.
You gotta understand, the ACA is not perfect, but it has been a godsend to sick individuals and their families who have a pre-existing condition and could not previously get coverage. If it goes away and we do not IMMEDIATELY replace it with single-payer, those people are back to bankruptcy and homelessness, some of them. That is why Clinton was all shouty at that point in the vid, IMO. She feels strongly that those individuals should be protected and worries that they won't be in the interim.
I doubt Clinton ideologically opposes single-payer or would stand in the way if there was the political will to make it a reality. And I respect that you prefer Sanders because you think he is a leader on this issue. As a Clinton supporter, I actually APPRECIATE the focus he puts on the issue since I a self-employed and get SO SCREWED on premiums. But I worry when people demonize Clinton here. She will, if elected, do more to improve healthcare in this country than any Republican. She is not actually on the wrong team here.

(10,123 posts)and how she now ignores that it was the chant of "yes, we can" that really delivered the ACA.
Ir was Obama's big dream stuff that got people fired up and delivered enough political momentum in congress to get the ACA done. Tweaking the existing system with the status quo wasn't going to do it - it was going to be "same as usual politics" and would never deliver an ACA.
How quickly we all forgot that in the subsequent Obama years and didn't give him a mandate in congress that he asked for many times to finish what he started.
Aftr doing that, I think we're so lucky to have someone like Bernie come along. So lucky. Because he's offering us another chance to get these things we're so passionate about and need so badly for our families, friends and kids. What we have to do is give him a mandate like we did Obama and he'll at least get some of what we want.
Following Hillary will lead to more of the same old crap in Washington. There's no guarantee with Bernie. Odds are against him like they were Obama. But I'd rather take that chance and fail because if we fail, we won't be that far off from where Hillary would lead us to anyway.

(4,213 posts)If she looked at gun control "realistically" she'd face that the second amendment protects gun owners and it is "unrealistic" to attempt legislation in the face of that. Also, with the power of the NRA, congress has resisted meaningful gun control legislation from being passed, and there are probably more NRA votes than ever in the Congress. It would seem "unrealistic" to attempt to garner gun control legislation because in the face of it, the votes aren't there and it will "never, ever come to pass."
But sometimes Hillary, I'll applaud you when you're willing to make "unrealistic" things, "realistic possibilities"
