2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAnd there are STILL more shoes to drop in Hillary's email "mistake."
State moved for another extension on the final release of emails. Some 5,000 have not yet been better by other agencies for release. They will not be released until well after Iowa and NH and perhaps NV.
Then there are the 30,000 emails Hillary refused to share with State, which the FBI has recovered and is reviewing.
Then there is the FBI investigation itself.
She is a huge liability to the party. The story will continue and worsen all year.
Now is our chance to not be saddled with such a damaged and vulnerable candidate.

This is likely going to be another drag on Clinton just as she hopes her "firewall" will put an end to Sanders populist grassfire.
This could be the wind that throws Sanders sparks beyond that firebreak and leads to a long primary season.

(23,867 posts)By the way, just by looking at your name, my mother's side of the family has been here since 1624 or so. They have had a house in Rhode Island under the same name, the whole time. I couldn't believe it when my mom told me. Pretty slow turnover.

Henry Gates "Finding Your Roots" is always saying there are traditions in families even when people don't know they are there. My 11th great-grandfather and American founder of the Sayre lineage was apparently fined (I suppose the 17th century equivalent of getting a thread locked) for 'immoderate language' at a village meeting.
If we could find his diary it might show he was 'Feel'n the Bern!' But I suspect it was more a Chuy Garcia raging at Rahm moment.

(23,867 posts)The truth is, I barely knew my grandfather. I know almost nothing about my lineage.
Now I want to know what that immoderate language was. Probably something like "gosh". Haha.

Clinton is pouring 90% of her resources in Iowa, NH, NV and SC, all which she will lose. Then she will see her donations dry up.
She's already tapped out and running a debt. Did you see the last FEC statement? She carries $650k in debt already.

(34,845 posts)It's been months and still nothing damaging has been uncovered. Clinton was not required to turn over personal emails, so you saying that she 'refused to share' them is disingenuous.
I understand the motivation behind "Keep hope alive" but hoping after all this time that a fellow Democrat can be undone by a right-wing attack? I don't understand that. (Actually, I do, but all I'm willing to say is that it deserves a re-think.)

(34,845 posts)Oh, and Sanders' more vehement supporters. It's been months and still some hope for a 'golden downfall'. At what point does someone stop fervently wishing for something? Will this continue until November? Geeze. Sometimes it's better to 'give up hope', especially when that hope is to find something to bludgeon a fellow Democrat with. Some dreams are not worth entertaining and it's a measure of maturity when someone recognizes that. IMO.

(29,192 posts)I took a while to decide whose camp I was in because I like them both.
She's going to be mired in investigations now that Obama is saying multiple email threads "exceed top secret"...
Whether they were properly marked or not, the content was highly sensitive.
I feel bad for her and all her passionate followers, honestly. But I don't see how she can carry a mantle of "best for national security" any more.

(10,122 posts)with the recovery of her personal emails (which probably means this investigation is going to continue until the General election is over) I've seen reports that the FBI was expanding their investigation to look at the Clinton Foundation.
In both the case of the classified emails and the potential case of the Clinton foundation, the difficult thing is that even if she is found innocent and not indicted, folks know it got looked at and will figure the Obama admin is cutting her some slack. So they'll howl allegations until the election and beyond. That's the problem with the scandal. It's going to cost her votes even if she's innocent. Her ceiling is already pretty low.
Hate to say it but this might be a blessing. If it had to happen, now is a lot better than the general election.
