(55,981 posts)She is tough, is what they tell me. Doesn't matter that she is tough on the 99% and soft on the 1%. They admire the toughness.
It's "favoring complete obedience or subjection to authority as opposed to individual freedom: " * or authoritarianism.
Authoritarians favor General James Clapper over a whistle-blower. Authoritarians want to see anyone that speaks out against complete authority punished. They are against whistle-blowers, protesters, investigative journalists, OWS, etc.

When Obama ran against Clinton, these same pseudo-liberals thought that Obama's being partially AA out weighed Clinton's being a female.

(12,655 posts)yup. she has enlisted some real treasures......
I'm not sure a lot of Americans know that a lot of the detention facilities for immigrants are run by private companies. They have a built-in incentive to fill them up - that there is actually a legal requirement that so many beds be filled. So people go out and round up people in order to get paid on a per-bed basis. I mean that just makes no sense at all to me. That's not the way we should be running any detention facility.
Hillary Clinton made that statement in May, 2015.
One month later, she hired Jeffrey Berman, a lobbyist for Geo Group, to raise funds for her campaign. Geo Group is the second-largest private prison/immigration center corporation in the world. Five other donation 'bundlers' for her campaign have been lobbyists for the largest one, Corrections Corporation Of America. Berman also worked at the firm Bryan Cave and pulled nearly $1 million in two years lobbying for TransCanadas Keystone pipeline project.
Clinton also continued her working relationship with private-prison lobbyist Richard Sullivan of Capitol Counsel AND Geo Group. However, in October, she was forced by ColorOfChange, Black Lives Matter and others to donate all funds she received from these lobbyists to charity. Yes, thats right folks -- after being called on it, she flipped on the issue and agreed that prisons-for-profits is maybe not such a great thing after all.

Bernie has the issues right. It's simple.
The only constantly repeated arguments I see are 'he can't be elected' and 'he won't be able to get anything done.'
JonLeibowitz
(6,282 posts)And he is pretty progressive himself. As the party moves leftward I can see him being a reasonable "establishment" pick once the establishment realizes how far the base really is.

(5,927 posts)I voted for him. But that didn't feel at all like Bernie's campaign. I'm not sure it's a good comparison.
Too bad about Mondale, he was the first to select a woman for his VP. Good guy too. But I never saw him inspire like Bernie's doing.
My 2 cents

(24,339 posts)He hasn't experience running a large city and a state
He is progressive on most issues
He has a pretty long list of progressive accomplishments (check with Elleng she has several posts about them) and they are rather impressive
He is good in small groups (and larger ones)
For all the mocking people made about him meeting with the one guy in Iowa, it had snowed pretty badly and the guy showed up. O' Malley spent a lot of time with the guy
There are candidates, Trump most likely, that would have just said, "Screw it! The weather is too awful and it's only one guy, and the guy said he wasn't really a supporter."
Takes perseverance and some class to sit there and talk 1:1 with a skeptic

(3,343 posts)His firm ALSO represents Saudi Arabia.
His brother who co-owns the lobbying firm is considered to be one of the most powerful men in DC. A super-lobbiest.
He's also one of Hillary's biggest fundraisers.
Podesta is also the Founder of Center for American Progress, whose current head is also part of the Hillary campaign staff.
Three of the top 10 biggest corporate tax cheats are represented by the Podesta's firm as well. And several of the weapons manufacturers they lobby for both donated millions to the Clinton Foundation AND got hundreds of millions in defense contracts while Hillary was SOS.
senz
(11,945 posts)It's amazing how they all rub each other's backs.
Saudi Arabia connects with Podesta, the Clintons, and the Bushes -- all of whom connect with one another.
Center for American Progress website ThinkProgess, a good progressive site, often promotes Hillary.
As you pointed out, Podesta lobbies for weapons manufacturers who got deals from and donated to the Clintons.
It is these sorts of favor-trading connections that account for much of the Clinton power in D.C. -- not their "progressive" creds. All they are is wheeler-dealers. It's hard to believe so many good little Democrats fall in line behind Hillary. She does not represent us.
Thanks, EdwardBernays.

(13,190 posts)Going to look to experienced people from the Obama and Clinton administrations. All new Presidents do that because they know they have experience I the WH:
EdwardBernays
(3,343 posts)Experience with corporate lobbying is patently ridiculous.
And experience is not as valuable as judgement. Hiring someone that makes money when a weapons manufacturer as a political advisor is obviously incredibly poor judgement. The same goes for someone that makes money when a pharmaceutical company makes money. Or someone that makes money by keeping Saudi Arabia and their crimes out of the press.

Ok, it's not the most ambitious poem ever undertaken. But it's free. I don't charge for this service.
And on a fashion note, I could do without the red tie, John. It's not the tie's fault. It can be red if it wants to. It's the juxtaposition of the red tie around your neck suggesting your, uh, financial interests worldwide.

(5,178 posts)When someone says "Not in my name" one must check if they are shareholders first. Because if so, it absolutely is in their name. From resource wars against the least, to climate change ignorance to incarceration for profit.
If there is a way to make the world worse and make a buck, a shareholder will fall over themselves to get an early taste.
