2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe DNC Just Declared War on Bernie Sanders’ Political Revolution
The Democratic National Committee, headed by the massively unpopular Debbie Wasserman Schultz, has just lifted the last restrictions preventing the DNC from receiving direct contributions from Wall Street and special interest lobbyists.
Under the new rules, political action committees (PACs) and other corporate lobbyists and special interests are now free to donate unlimited sums to the DNC itself. The previous restrictions were put in place by President Barack Obama after his own election, which he marked by saying, We are going to change how Washington works.
He continued by affirming that corporate PACs will not fund my party. They will not run our White House. And they will not drown out the voice of the American people when Im president of the United States of America.

(39,909 posts)She isn't smart enough to run the DNC.
She merely follows orders.
What most are calling "incompetence" is actually allegiance to her Party Bosses.
She "failed upwards" when she ran the DCCC "Red to Blue" program,
and she will Fail Upwards again when she leaves the DNC.
The ONLY reason she is still chair of the DNC is that her bosses approve of the "job" she is doing.
Otherwise, she would have been fired LONG ago when she refused to endorse Democrats in Florida in 2008 because it would hurt her Republican friends feelings.

(131,061 posts)from Robert Reich.Democratic National Committee has quietly reversed restrictions banning donations
'According to todays Washington Post, the Democratic National Committee has quietly reversed restrictions banning donations from federal lobbyists and political action committees -- restrictions that were put in place by Barack Obama when he was the Democratic candidate for president in 2008. (The DNCs sweeping reversal of the previous was confirmed by three Democratic lobbyists who said they have already received solicitations from the DNC.) According to the Post, Hillary Clinton has set up a joint fundraising committee with the DNC and the new rules are likely to provide her with an advantage.
To my mind, this is the worst aspect of insider-dominated crony capitalism the rigging of our system by big money. Its exactly what Americans are reacting against in this election. Its precisely what the movement to take back our democracy and economy from the moneyed interests is all about. The DNC appears to be nothing but siphon for more corruption.
What do you think?'

The party is showing signs of losing to the strain of being big enough for both pro-corporatist New Dems and populist Pro-labor
It seems to mostly be about campaign financing and the way current reality discounts taxpayer/voters. I really can't see the DNC turning against their funding source. They don't trust people to cough up the money and they can't get elected without money. They can't govern in the interest of people because the oligarchs control all the strings (which isn't to say all the oligarch agree with each other).

(10,497 posts)Basically, what we have now with the Democratic and Republican Party's are the Harlem Globetrotters vs. the Washington Generals! They want us to believe that they are real, but it is just a game where the owners of the two teams take all of the money from the gate that we paid for admission, then sold us overpriced Defense budgets, Wall Street bailouts, and watered down public education and social safety net.
Now they are Swift Boating Bernie before SC with coordinated, manipulative lies to try to get us to believe that Bernie was not a civil rights student leader who was arrested. Rovian Republican tactics against another Democratic candidate, because hey, the two teams are owned by the same group now. Who started us on this road by selling our team (Party) to the owners of the Republican team (Party), none other than Bill Clinton!

(10,497 posts)When Bernie says that he is going to tax the millionaires and billionaires, it is for good reason. It would be economic justice!
It also charts the rise in influence peddling with the resultant effects, starting when St. Reagan took office. You cannot stop influence peddling if there is no one looking for the quid pro quo. The Attorney General's have not been doing the job they are supposed to be doing. Holder was a joke, I have seen that personally as well. The AG's job now is to do what Wall Street says, and nothing more! Rich and powerful do not get investigated, indicted, or prosecuted unless they piss off someone more powerful.

How the songs often say something very different than the candidate probably wanted to put across? It reminded me of Hillary Clinton's using Tom Petty's "American Girl" during the slugfest that developed with Barack Obama during the 2008 Primary campaign...And I remember wondering whether Clinton had actually heard the line "God it's so painful when something that's so close / Is still so far out of reach"...
