2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumEndorsements.
I'm inclined to think that for most of us, there is not an endorsement that would matter or make us change our minds, but I'm curious.

(94,624 posts)...I do a lot of research and crunch a lot of campaign data.

(23,156 posts)I actually hypothesize that few if any of us make our candidate selection that way, but that would be a different poll.

(2,472 posts)If it were accompanied by a solid argument it would be more likely to sway me.
However I think I've read most of the arguments and to date nothing has changed my mind.

(23,156 posts)So far you are all affirming what I've been suspecting all along.
I'll throw this in, for those who see it: despite your own strong commitment to your candidate, do you think endorsements matter very much out there in the rest of the world?

(9,522 posts)I heard a Republican woman on MSNBC say today Nikki Haley's endorsement of Rubio made zero difference because as she put it "I think for myself."

(23,156 posts)All of us should be thinking for ourselves.
Endorsements should only provide a certain amount of insight into what others think.
Also, the endorsements tend to be on a relatively high level. What if your co-workers, or high school classmates were to endorse? Would that tell you anything at all aside from where those people fit on the political spectrum?
I doubt it.
As an aside, I have recently connected on FB to a small degree with people I went to school with over 50 years ago. I'm astonished at how many seem to be conservative, but since I haven't spoken with them in so very long, and don't really know very much about them, I am trying very hard to reserve judgement.

(13,390 posts)Sometimes I am pleasantly or unpleasantly surprised based on history, but really they don't matter to me.

(15,164 posts)But I voted other because I'm not enthusiastic about Hillary or Bernie and I am struggling to think of an endorsement that would change my lack of enthusiasm for either of them
I think endorsements can help -I think that Oprah Winfery's and Ted Kennedy's endorsements helped then-Senator Obama in 2008 (although I don't think they were decisive in ensuring his success) and I think endorsements from people like John Lewis could boost Hillary Clinton's prospects in South Carolina. But I think the power of endorsements may be diminishing slightly in the age of the Internet, where such endorsements can be disconstrued and countered relatively quickly and effectively.

(7,480 posts)How about "I'm an undecided voter and an endorsement would/wouldn't make me change my mind"? Other doesn't really cover a vital part of the people you're polling...
I'm in Vegas and I go to caucus tomorrow. Despite the derangement syndrome displayed by some Bernie and Hilllary supporters on this board, I think they're both great candidates. I just think that their supporters on this board -- especially the Bernie ones -- aren't doing their candidates' any favors by acting like pompous jackasses.

(23,156 posts)any time before Hillary actual clinches the nomination, I will be so disappointed that I'll know there is simply no point in bothering any more. And given the degree to which Warren has criticized all the big banks, it's nearly unfathomable that she'd do that.

(68,918 posts)Doesn't matter to me. Actual issues matter to me. Not who said what when. Or being told how icky the supporters of this candidate or that candidate are, which is what 90% of this forum is about these days.

(23,156 posts)Maybe a new poll in a few weeks, or maybe someone else would make one with different choices.
I rarely start threads, and this is the first poll I've ever done, so it's been a learning experience for me.
