http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/hillary_clinton_cries_crocodile_tears_for_latin_american_immigrants_2016021"...The hard choices taken by Clinton and her team didnt just damage U.S. relations with Latin America. They contributed to the enormous damage done to Honduras. In the years following the coup, economic growth has stalled, while poverty and income inequality have risen significantly. Violence has spiraled out of control. Meanwhile, the U.S. government has increased military assistance to Honduras, despite alarming reports of killings and human rights abuses by increasingly militarized Honduran security forces. Many Congressional Democrats have asked for a complete suspension of security assistance while human rights violations continue with impunity. But neither the Clinton nor Kerry State Departments have heeded their call."
"Clintons role in the Honduras coup alone should be sufficient to show that she is no friend of the Latinx immigrant community, but in the last Democratic presidential debate, on Feb. 11 in Milwaukee, she went even further to dismiss the humanity of migrant children caught up in the violent aftermath of the regime change she encouraged and partially engineered. Here is the pivotal exchange between Clinton and Bernie Sanders:
SANDERS: Secretary Clinton, I do have a disagreement here. If my memory is correct, I think when we saw children coming from these horrendous, horrendously violent areas of Honduras and neighboring countries, people who are fleeing drug violence and cartel violence, I thought it was a good idea to allow those children to stay in this country. That was not, as I understand it, the secretarys position. ...
CLINTON: ... Two quick responses. One, with respect to the Central American children, I made it very clear that those children needed to be processed appropriately, but we also had to send a message to families and communities in Central America not to send their children on this dangerous journey in the hands of smugglers.
SANDERS: ... But in terms of the children, I dont know to whom youre sending a message. Who are you sending a message to? These are children who are leaving countries and neighborhoods where their lives are at stake. That was the fact. I dont think we use them to send a message. I think we welcome them into this country and do the best we can to help them get their lives together."

Hillary Clinton and the Syrian Bloodbath
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeffrey-sachs/hillary-clinton-and-the-s_b_9231190.html
"This is the kind of compulsive misrepresentation that makes Clinton unfit to be President. Clinton's role in Syria has been to help instigate and prolong the Syrian bloodbath, not to bring it to a close.
In 2012, Clinton was the obstacle, not the solution, to a ceasefire being negotiated by UN Special Envoy Kofi Annan. It was US intransigence - Clinton's intransigence - that led to the failure of Annan's peace efforts in the spring of 2012, a point well known among diplomats. Despite Clinton's insinuation in the Milwaukee debate, there was (of course) no 2012 ceasefire, only escalating carnage. Clinton bears heavy responsibility for that carnage, which has by now displaced more than 10 million Syrians and left more than 250,000 dead. "

Don't get me started. I do have to erase that from my mind in November, I will vote for her, she is naive about Latin America but I think she has improved a little. She's been forced to improve.

(1,859 posts)everything bad, is where she also profits on it. She somehow profited on Honduras.
She's been in too much bloodshed to call this an accident. And she's too much of a war hawk.

(1,859 posts)Hillary Clinton sold out Honduras: Lanny Davis, corporate cash, and the real story about the death of a Latin American democracy
http://www.salon.com/2015/06/08/exclusive_hillary_clinton_sold_out_honduras_lanny_davis_corporate_cash_and_the_real_story_about_the_death_of_a_latin_america_democracy/
"If you want to understand who the real power behind the [Honduran] coup is, you need to find out whos paying Lanny Davis, said Robert White, former ambassador to El Salvador, just a month after the coup. Speaking to Roberto Lovato for the American Prospect, Davis revealed who that was: My clients represent the CEAL, the [Honduras Chapter of] Business Council of Latin America. In other words, the oligarchs who preside over a country with a 65 percent poverty rate. The emerging understanding, that the powerful oligarchs were behind the coup, began to solidify, and the Clinton cliques allegiances were becoming pretty clear. If you can believe it, Clintons team sided with the wealthy elite."
A little more digging and I'll find where she profited directly. But make no mistake it was about money.

(39,354 posts)I'll read this, hope it's not as bad as I think it is.
I saw some interview where she admitted that she's stuck on this group of advisors around her and knows that it's not always seen well. Something like that. Lanny Davis was a monster in that situation, a double dealing prick.

(39,354 posts)I'm so grateful that Bernie is forcing the light on things that Clinton doesn't care about, not really, like justice for the poor in nations south of us.
I remember exactly when the coup happened against Zelaya. There were a lot of people in the Latin America group here discussing it as it happened. We were watching Telesur and commenting, it was pretty intense, well the part where Zelaya attempted to return, of course with no support from the Clinton camp.
Before that Lanny Davis showed up in Honduras with some of the creepiest players, the Diaz Balart Brothers, Ileana Ros-Lehtinin and am I forgetting someone, maybe even Otto Reich. All right wing Cuban Americans. That was his little group that he brought and he was working for them as well as the elites in Honduras.
It was about Hugo Chavez too. Hillary didn't like the warm relationship between Zelaya and Chavez so she decided to regime change, or she didn't prevent it.
All through this, which by the way hardly appeared in the US press, the radio stations from Honduras were reporting the atrocities happening to union members, teachers, anyone involved with politics, reporters, anyone supporting Zelaya were being slaughtered. The article misses this no doubt because there isn't much of a record of all of this in English anyway. I was horrified and it has continued all this time, still with very little press coverage, and now Honduras has the highest murder rate, due to gangs but also related to corrupt members of the junta that had ties to drugs (proven).
Thanks for the article. It hurts but it's reality, it's who we're dealing with..

(1,859 posts)I don't get it. And worse, I didn't catch any of it when it happened. You're lucky you did.
I remember it vaguely and didn't look into it.
I cannot vote for her for president. I bet that there has never been a president that already had so much blood on their hands as Hillary, before they even take office.
Bernie better win the primary because if he doesn't, they've finally lost me.

(39,354 posts)I think Hillary will be an acceptable president because she'll get the pressure and help in that limelight to make the right decisions. We'll all be watching her.
I'm not a purist. Compromised positions would happen to Bernie, I'd accept that. He'd want something done and he'd have to give on something else. I've been helped immensely by ACA, Hillary would continue that. Bernie is a wild card, we just don't know, there are good reasons to be critical of how health care is handled in social democracies, there are lots of problems, my health care now is great and cheap. Everyone has their interests.
Having seen what Republicans will do, starting with Nixon, I think the number one goal for us is to keep them out of the white house. Most of the rest is minor. The damage that they can do to the world, to the innocents in other countries and our own is enormous. The democrats do have the ability to reflect, learn, change and accept criticism. The big picture matters most and it's not black and white. But I will have to get past my distaste for Clinton.
