Hillary Clinton Used To Talk About How The People On Welfare Were “No Longer Deadbeats”

http://www.buzzfeed.com/christophermassie/hillary-clinton-used-to-talk-about-how-the-people-on-welfare#.uvlnZQ2Om

In the 1990s and early 2000s, Hillary Clinton touted the success of Bill Clinton’s 1996 overhaul of the country’s welfare system, framed as the transition from “dependency to dignity” — a subject she hasn’t spoken much about this year during her campaign.

Some Hillary quotes:

“too many ... had known nothing but dependency all their lives.”

“transition from dependency to dignity.”

“substitute dignity for dependence.”

“Now that we’ve said these people are no longer deadbeats—they’re actually out there being productive—how do we keep them there?”

Let's kick everyone off welfare. Big banks. Energy corporations. The "intelligence community."

If she was talking about white people she'd call them "hard working".

I took that comment as sarcasm against people who Hillary knows refers to welfare recipients as "deadbeats." And yes, there was a movement during the Clinton administration called "welfare to work" through which many...white and black female heads of households were very grateful. Many were able to get jobs and get as start at making a better life for themselves and their families. Was everyone on welfare able to do this...NO. And there were more who didn't benefit than those that did for various reasons. The women I knew who were helped into the workforce (3) are eternally grateful for the chance it gave them.
