"Bernie Baby" dies of SIDS

A young infant, who became a viral sensation on social media for his resemblance to Bernie Sanders, has tragically died, reportedly from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

According to the Huffington Post, Oliver Jack Carter Lomas-Davis was frequently dressed up by his mother Souxsie in a white messy wig, giant black glasses, and a Bernie Sanders button pinned to the front of his shirt. After posting the pictures of her son on Facebook, Oliver became known on social media as the “Bernie Baby.” Oliver actually got to meet his inspiration during a Sanders rally in Las Vegas in February. Bernie Sanders took several photos with his doppelganger, and later posted them to social media.

My heart goes out to the parents.

One of our grandsons died of SIDS at three months. It was simply devastating for us all, but especially so for his young parents. Even now, >26 years and two living sons later, it is still a black hole in their lives.

What an adorable young one! How awful to lose him!

There's just no reason they can find for SIDS -- and if other states handle it like California the parents are under a dark cloud of suspicion while the Coroner investigates whether their baby was abused. I understand why the law does that, but it adds to the grief something fierce.

on its back to go to sleep, and that this should be done in a BARE CRIB with a firm mattress. NO blankets, quilts, bumper pads, pillows, positioning devices, toys. NOTHING.

http://sids.org/what-is-sidssuid/reduce-the-risk/

SIDS deaths decreased remarkably as a result of the "Back to Sleep" campaign. Getting the word out about The Bare Crib should help to reduce the numbers even more. Sadly, though, a fair number of parents and caregivers are still unaware of these recommendations.
Spread the word!!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=1428372

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Shame on this person for making this about politics. Cali posted a story that would touch us all and gets trashed.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Mar 7, 2016, 12:58 AM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Are you fucking kidding me? This is one of the few sane posts in this thread.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Until today, every reply expressed condolences to the child's passing, not politics.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: What an offbeat reaction. Ad hominem is OUT.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: sad and unexplainable.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: What another senseless alert
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This has been posted several times already. I don't see why it has been challenged.

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

... from the things I meant when I spoke of alerting on.

Still, let's remember there is a family that might read our discussions someday. And we all want them to know, should they Google and find this thread, that at least people on this forum were united in sympathy for them.

Yeah, this could have gone in GD instead of GD: P. But many come here first, and if any alleged progressive dared to try to capitalize on the death of a child to make a political point, I have no doubt that the jury system will work correctly.

Maybe my tone was off, but basically I meant, at least when *I* referenced alerting, was if anyone posted something that would hurt the parents if they read it.

Being concerned that posting it here is inappropriate because this forum is pretty darn heated and this could have gone into regular GD isn't going to make the parents feel like we aren't supportive of them as a community in their time of grieving.
