(16,685 posts)I know, I know...I probably should give up expecting better from people who actually believe a Heritage Foundation proposal to transfer public tax dollars to private insurance company middlemen was providing people with healthcare...

That prioritization is flat-out insane to me...but it's their call to make.

(1,000 posts)I find the numbers difficult to grapple with. What exactly makes a few hours of someone speaking more valuable than the annual combined income of a half-dozen average wage earners?
How many people on this planet get paid those amounts for speeches? Who are these people? Can someone give a name of someone who is confirmed to be compensated at this rate for this kind of work?

But the people who paid those rates don't expect anything in return. She is just that entertaining and dynamic a speaker. Haven't you ever seen her speak?

(36,418 posts)But, this is really small change compared to the hundreds of millions that have flowed to the Foundation from abroad. The real question is, what does Saudi Arabia and Qatar and Kuwait expect for their millions?

(1,825 posts)release the speech transcripts of what she told you. That should bring her back in line.

(76 posts)Judges recuse themselves when they have a conflict of interest. Public Servants should do the same. there does not need to be proof of a quid pro quo, because what is at stake is public confidence that there isn't bias toward cronies and friends. the standard is pretty strict. a reasonable person might pause to question IF these speeches establish a financial relationship that might influence something down the line (who pisses off a major client if they can avoid it?)
so no. proof of quid pro quo is not the issue. but, watch to see who gets what cabinet positions in a Hillary admin. if Treasury goes to a Wall St. figure, that might be what you are looking for.
by then it will be too late. but, that is kind of the point of you demanding proof now, isnt it?

(5,902 posts)1. General Electric
According to data from the nonpartisan group Citizens for Tax Justice (CTJ), GE posted $33.9 billion in U.S. profits, yet somehow got $2.9 billion in refunds in that same time period. According to the book Clinton Cash, then-Secretary of State Clinton lobbied the Algerian government for a GE power plant contract. After Algeria awarded the contract to GE, Jeffrey Immelt CEO of GE gave a donation to the Clinton Foundation. Sanders also pointed out that while Immelt sat on the board of the New York Federal Reserve, the Fed gave GE $16 billion in financial assistance.
2. Boeing
Boeing is one of the nations biggest corporate tax dodgers, making over $20 billion in profits between 2008 and 2012 and paying an overall income tax rate of negative one percent during those years. Clinton Cash author Peter Schweizer noted that after Secretary Clinton successfully lobbied the Russian government to enter into a $3.7 billion contract to buy Boeings aircraft, the aerospace company gave the Clinton Foundation a hefty donation of $900,000.
