2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumFive reasons Bernie Sanders lost last night’s Democratic debate
Instead, in the seventh Democratic debate, Sanders found himself on the defensive for the first time ever over his vote against the auto bailout. He poorly handled delicate racial and gender dynamics. He seemed angry, and he came across as someone who is running to make a point not to win. He even managed to offend the mentally ill.

(1,252 posts)That is certainly manageable.
It's all theater but Bernie won the debate by being real as opposed to her.

(7,393 posts)There are no "usual suspects" here. In fact, DU is the only place I am seeing that doesn't think he blew it big time. LOL - Maybe the Bernie propaganda site USUNCUT gave him a rave review?
It was bad, bad, bad.

(4,711 posts)But the real question is this: can you post in the Hillary Clinton group? If so, you may be a Usual Suspect, since only those unflaggingly loyal to and unquestioning of Her Majesty may post there.

Bwahahahah. No bullshit. My only post in the Sanders Group.

Might want to reconsider your thoughts here. Sometimes brevity is beneficial in a conversation. I seriously laughed out loud. Thanks.

(42,862 posts)... behavior I'd want to see in my president. If be embarrassed if Hillary was like that. (Can you imagine the howls from the other side if Hillary had been wagging her finger and flailing her hands?)
Hillary is composed, knowledgeable, detailed, thoughtful, calm, poised, direct and in control.
MaggieD
(7,393 posts)Just his habit of using demeaning language such as "well guess what...?" to preface half his statements is enough for me to say no way to him. I wouldn't hire someone who talked like that to be a clerk in my business let alone as president.
NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)... on a political web site. It makes me wonder WHO exactly is prepping him during his debate practice sessions?
Did he "learn" it from his staff (through osmosis) or is this always been a demeaning verbal habit of his? It seems logical to assume that his debate prep-team would have noticed it and told him to tone it down a smidge ... so, that makes me wonder if they're oblivious and fail to give him good advice; or do they think it's good for his image and just let-it-ride; or is he just ignoring their advice; or does he even have practice debates at all?
Whatever the answer is, it doesn't paint a very flattering image of the candidate or the inner workings of his campaign.
Any word on his130 experts, MaggieD?

(75,480 posts)So it's pretty disingenuous to say one lost and one won. Each one won over their own partisans with their policy points. I'm being very honest here, but if you want to go back to the poo slinging, have at it.

(58,785 posts)Hillary's statement gave Bernie the opportunity to explain his position in such a way that Michiganers would have respected it. He failed. Blame him.
"Bernie's Bailout Cop-Out:http://www.usnews.com/opinion/blogs/robert-schlesinger/articles/2016-03-06/auto-bailout-debate-moment-shows-whats-wrong-with-bernie-sanders
Clinton makes the important point that, on a key piece of legislation, which helped save millions of jobs, Sanders voted no. Yes, he supported other bailout bills, but this one was where the rubber was meeting the road. The unhappy fact of politics is that legislation is often imperfect and often has unpalatable provisions. As the Detroit Free Press explains: "In short, a Senator or congressman could not vote to rescue GM and Chrysler without voting to provide the money to keep the nation's largest investment banks from failing."
As Clinton put it later in the debate: "As we all know, there are bills in congress that have bad stuff, there are bills in congress that have good stuff. Good stuff and bad stuff in the same bill." And that's why you sometimes have to vote for bills with bad stuff to get the good stuff. No wait, I'm sorry Clinton didn't say that. Sanders did. And it's not the first time either. He has in the past ascribed votes benefiting the gun industry to the fact that he comes from a rural, pro-gun state. So the politics of practicality are fine, except for when they're not."

(10,164 posts)Not expecting lies from the Clinton camp is surprisingly naive.

(32,721 posts)The GOP is coddling him right now, hoping he somehow wins the nomination. Bernie would be torn to shreds! He doesn't have the skill set to calmly and effectively defend himself.

(1,881 posts)the manufactured outrage for that choreographed protest at that event? BLM doesn't choose sides.
Nanjeanne
(4,973 posts)from Hillary. If people were outraged it was at the condescending answer Hillary gave her. Was that manufacturered?
Personally, as a woman, I was much more disturbed by Hillary's condescension than Ashley's question. Whether she knows or doesn't know West is completely unimportant to me. It's quite possible to be at the same event as West if you are a Sanders supporter. What that proves is beyond me.
And also as a woman I was much more disturbed by Hillary's continuous interruption of Bernie after he patiently let her talk. My mother (also a woman) taught me how rude it is to interrupt.
Cornell West's Protege happened to be at the same event as Cornell West. I do believe that. Anything else AS A WOMAN that will give you cashay on this issue? What relevance does that have to do with anything?
Nanjeanne
(4,973 posts)pic of Ashley at the same event as West? That's what makes no sense to me. I don't care if she knows him or doesn't know him. My post was about rudeness and in both cases, Hillary was the rude one. In one she chastises Ashley for interrupting. In the other she chastises Sanders for telling her to stop interrupting him. Just my logical mind trying to make sense of her reasoning.
You mentioned Ashley Williams who is nothing more than a Shill for Cornell West. The hell does that have anything to do with you or her or Hillary Being female? Not talking about Bernie's "Know your place and wait your turn" moment at the debate.
