If Hillary lies about her name and sniper fire and the auto bailout,

what else is she lying about and how can we know what she'll really do if she makes it to the White House? Will Social Security be on the table for a deal with the Republicans? Will we ignore love and kindness for war and destruction? Will her corporate backers help themselves to even more taxpayer money during her watch? Who knows? Why take a risk on such an unknowable politician?

Hillary vs. Hillary

<edit>

Sir Edmund Hillary, a frequent visitor and benefactor of Nepal since his historic trek, had a brief Hillary-to-Hillary handshake at the Katmandu airport before Clinton departed Sunday for Bangladesh.

The first lady said her mother had read about the famous climber and knew his name had two L's.

"So when I was born, she called me Hillary and she always told me, 'It's because of Sir Edmund Hillary,'" Hillary Clinton reported.1

<edit>

As we noted back in 2003, this story was likely a little white lie concocted to curry favor with the public for a special occasion back in 1995, and even if it really was a "sweet family story" Dorothy Rodham told had her daughter Hillary many years earlier, the latter had almost certainly known for quite a long time that it was just a story.

Video shows tarmac welcome, no snipers

By Angie Drobnic Holan on Tuesday, March 25th, 2008 at 12:00 a.m.

(Published March 25, 2008)

During an introduction to a foreign policy speech on Iraq on March 17, 2008, Sen. Hillary Clinton reminisced about her days as first lady and a trip to Tuzla, Bosnia, she made in March 1996.

"I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."

But that's not what happened, as demonstrated by CBS News video that shows Clinton arriving on the tarmac under no visible duress, and greeting a child who offers her a copy of a poem. The Washington Post Factchecker also turned a skeptical eye on Clinton's comments, reporting that a review of more than 100 news stories from the time documented no security threats to the First Lady.

Bernie Sanders: I voted for the auto bailout

<edit>

"Secretary Clinton went out of her way to mischaracterize my history as it relates to the 2008 auto industry bailout," he said to a crowd of 3,200 in Kalamazoo. He was referring to the debate in Flint, Michigan Sunday night when Clinton said that Sanders voted to oppose saving the auto industry and she voted for it.

"He voted against the money that ended up saving the auto industry. I think that is a pretty big difference," Clinton said during the debate. Sanders did vote against the $700 billion federal bailout program, which included money sent directly to the auto industry as well as the big banks, but he had been on the record in supporting funds that would help prop up the auto industry as a separate measure. He did support a $14 billion aid package which passed the House in December of 2008, but it was not able to pass in the Senate. Sanders referenced that vote.

"There was one vote in the United States Senate to support the automobile industry and, of course, I voted for it. To say otherwise is simply not telling the truth," he said.

<edit>

During the debate, Sanders' denial of Clinton's assertion wasn't very clear. He later explained to reporters that he was surprised to hear someone say "something that is absolutely distorting the record." He said he was "taken aback" by the accusation.

"Sometimes somebody says something to you, and it is untrue, so it took me about 12 seconds or less than that, I figure, to try to understand what she was saying," Sanders explained.

better than reality... consequently, fiction is -essential- as a vehicle for communicating what is most important.

And what's important is beating whatever other candidate is standing against her.

2. Democratic Senators Take Issue With Hillary Clinton’s Portrayal Of Bailout Vote

Heading into crucial primaries in auto industry states such as Michigan and Ohio, Hillary Clinton in recent days has argued that Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2009 vote to block the release of Wall Street bailout money proves he “was against the auto bailout” and that he voted “against the money that ended up saving the auto industry.” But other Democratic lawmakers who voted the same way as Sanders are challenging Clinton’s portrayal of that vote.

In interviews with International Business Times, two former Democratic senators took issue with the notion promoted by the former secretary of state that their vote to block Wall Street bailout money somehow put them at odds with the auto industry. Another Democratic senator’s office told IBT that the vote was about reining in the financial industry — not about opposing help for autoworkers.

In Clinton’s telling at debates and in a campaign ad, because a comparatively small portion of the Wall Street bailout money ended up being used to help automakers, those lawmakers who voted in 2009 to block some of the bailout money from being released were abandoning autoworkers and the domestic auto industry.

However, former North Dakota Sen. Byron Dorgan told IBT that the vote in question “was viewed by most as here’s what needs to be done to address the Wall Street issue” and that therefore he voted to block the money because “my view of it was if you don’t add some restrictions now, you’ll never add them, and so for the next year and a half Wall Street was able to work their will on a range of things that should have been done but were never done.”

That's what's led to someone like Hillary Clinton being a viable presidential candidate, even though it's very well known that she and the truth are distant acquaintances, at best. Some of us demand more this time around.

And by "more," I mean "Bernie."
