Big Sanders win in Maine does not flip state’s Clinton superdelegates

http://stateandcapitol.bangordailynews.com/2016/03/08/maines-clinton-superdelegates-say-theyll-support-bernie-if-hes-the-obvious-nominee/

<snip>

The Maine Democratic Party has 25 delegates resulting from Sunday’s vote, plus five superdelegates who can support whoever they want at the Democratic National Convention. Three of those people, national committeewoman Maggie Allen, U.S. 1st District U.S. Rep Chellie Pingree and state party vice chairwoman Peggy Schaffer, have endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. National committeeman Troy Jackson has endorsed Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett has not voiced a preference.

All three Clinton supporters said Monday that they will wait until the convention and support whoever has the majority of delegates going into the national convention.

“I am going to vote for the will of the American people,” said Allen. “I believe that by July 22 we will know what the delegate count is of the unpledged delegates.”

Schaffer and Pingree both said something similar.

He's going to be destroyed today. His goal has to be to apply pressure on Hillary and the DNC. I doubt it works, the establishment will began to ignore him in 3-4 weeks IMO.

he can't apply any pressure on them.

as for today if things in micgigan are similar to michigan univ poll it will be close.

regardless i have the feeling bernie can do well outside the south and super delegates will hand it to clinton.

Clinton outside of victory speeches doesn't even try to pretend anymore she is progressive

when clinton loses to trump in november don't come crying to me.me and other bernie supporters tried to warn people but you were too busy attacking us and ignoring the issues to cornate her.

I will go with my conscience and self interst lay and that is refusing to vote for eather clinton or trump.

Which is what I expect most would do. They don't need to flip yet, just after he wins the majority. Most will follow the will of the people.

These types of statements provide a basis for contacting news outlets to strongly object to any inclusion of unpledged in their totals.

Super delegates don't "represent people" I'm not elected by anyone. I'll do what I think is right for the country.

His superdelegates vote is equivalent to about 10,000 votes from us little people, but he's going to do whatever he damn well pleases.

Vermont's population is relatively small, but I think there are more than 30 people there!

"All three Clinton supporters said Monday that they will wait until the convention and support whoever has the majority of delegates going into the national convention."

They are committing to do what I imagine most of the supposed "Clinton" unpledged will do -- i.e., switch to Bernie if he ultimately gets more pledged delegates than Clinton.

This demonstrates that any unpledged endorsements of Clinton are fairly meaningless. All the more reason endorsements should absolute NOT be included in delegate counts.

Perhaps we need to start pointing this out to news outlets who are combining pledged and unpledged "endorsements? Clearly, Clinton endorsements are NOT a "pledge" to vote for Clinton.
