MI Voter Here. Bernie supporter. (Personal Perspective)

I even put a Bernie sign in my yard and bought a car magnet.

From a personal perspective, my Facebook feed has been filled today with friends proudly proclaiming they voted at a level that has just been stunning. We *all* seem to have turned out, regardless of party affiliation and candidate preference. Everyone has been cajoling, nagging and bragging about voting - we all seemed to take this VERY SERIOUSLY on both sides of the spectrum.

Issues with the pols - we have no landlines. EVERYONE is using cells, to the point where I only know three people out of everyone (friends and family numbers are ridiculously large) who actually have landlines anymore and they generally speaking use caller ID/don't answer numbers they don't recognize because of the blasted telemarketers. This is just life across all age demographics - the older people keep their cells on them in case of emergency, and nearly everyone texts (younger folk with more regularity).

Speaking of cell phones, I received a personal text reminder from a Bernie supporter in Idaho a few days ago complete with info about my polling place, then another one this morning. TEXTS - not phone calls. Not sure what other campaigns are doing to keep up with technology, but since everyone uses text, and annoying people can be easily blocked, it was a very efficient "get out the vote" strategy.

Hillary supporters are outnumbered three to one in my circle with Bernie supporters. Only a handful like Trump, and the sane Republicans will happily take anyone who is Not Trump (they want either Rubio or Cruz to drop out so the other one can "take Trump out&quot .

I have made my living in technology for three decades, and two of them were automotive centric (my resume includes all thre of the big guys). My husband has spent the majority of his career in automotive world, as have my two brothers, and of course my dad was auto his entire career/my mom worked the auto lines part time when I was growing up, so the industry has really put the roof over my head/food in my stomach for most of my life. We all knew the bullshit line Hillary was feeding about the bailout (my husband was laid off briefly for the first time in his career when GM declared bankruptcy, and I was doing work for a Tier One supplier at the time) and that level of dishonesty about something we are still smarting from did NOT go over well, especially when "can't trust a word the woman says" is already an issue. (That isn't meant sexist - it is meant as a descriptive.)

The more people were told how inevitable Hillary was, the angrier people were getting. I won't say I expected Bernie to win tonight, but I was hoping. The Hillary supporters I know weren't excited about her - they were more "there is no other choice so just accept it already" along with "we think she is qualified" (of course). I know multiple people who voted for Bernie who would support Hillary in the general, if she was the candidate, and about an equal number who won't. There isn't any middle ground - people seem to either love or hate her.

Not sure if this information helps in the next few states, but that is what I see from my vantage point.

Fellow Michigan voters, please add your own thoughts?

It got only one kick, but it was still a heartfelt post.

BRB, I will post my previous content here in support of yours.

Here ya go:

Now, I should inform folks that I live in an extremely rural area with more national forest than habitable area. I had to drive just under 15 miles to get to my township hall. Along the way I passed another township hall which was open for voting, just not mine. There are not many paved roads around here and there is no direct route to my township hall from my house because of the intervening forest, hence, my long, circuitous drive to the polls.

This area is very conservative so being the 27th Democrat voting today did not alarm me much. I should have glanced at the top GOP ballot in the stack of ballots to see its serial number. Sadly, I did not think of that until I was already driving home.

Starting in November, I will be voting absentee. The drive is worth it, but is a pain in the ass. I am old enough that I qualify for absentee status. Should have done it years ago.

BTW, I did not show a picture ID and they did not ask for one in spite of MI law. I showed my voter registration card.

Anyway, Bernie got my vote.

Vote early! Vote often!

It's not much. But it is what I had at the time.

Happy to support your thread. It is the story that makes the argument. It is how one wins.

Back in 2004, I was doing some election analysis chart stuff looking at precincts that used optical scanners vs other machines. Then I stopped - but I think I'll be retired at the end of this school year and will have time in the general election, so if you are still doing that and want help, hit me up. (I think I remember you being involved in that?)

My now 9-year old twins have completely changed the focus of my life and I have ended up becoming an accidental expert in prematurity and special needs children (as an all consuming hobby, of course!). I still have some contacts I can reach out to connect you with (if they remember me - bad friend!) so bookmark this thread, and PM me when you are ready if you want..

Thank you for remembering my efforts back then!!! I am still proud of the work that was done and my part in it!

:hug.

13. Well done! Not in MI, but one theme I've noticed ...

... among my friends who are, interestingly, females near 50 years old: a couple in education, one in finance, a few in IT ...

... they are left / center left and are all leaning HRC because they still have the negative gut reaction to 'democratic socialism' and see her as 'more pragmatic'. Small steps. They're not old enough to remember FDR / New Deal and they don't seem too inclined to think outside the box in terms of remaking the system. They're constrained (intellectually) by making what we have now, work. Which, it doesn't. It won't.

Anyway. Wondering if other Bernie supporters have experienced the same with their acquaintances and how, short of a full history and econ lesson, to get the message across.

I think people are really underestimating how much Bernies message is resonating

"She's more electable" simply isn't enough anymore

Described here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1280140366

Also got 2 calls from them on my cell and at least one on my land line (which I sometimes do not answer and could have missed calls from either campaign).

All I got from Hillary was 3 big, colorful (expensive?) mailers.

Bernie got my vote and I bet he spent less money doing it than Hillary spent trying to get mine (not counting my donations to Bernie).

My bet. Someone in the Sanders campaign said "We could collect cell phone numbers, like at the rallies, and then text those numbers later" and Bernie gave it a thumbs up.

While someone in the Clinton camp suggested using texts as a way to reach voters and Hillary gave it a thumbs down. Mailers! I Want Lots And Lots Of Mailers With My Picture All Over Them!!!!!

To me, it seems obvious who has the better campaign and who is the better candidate.
