2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTo all of you who want to remind us Bernie Supporters of the Delegate Count...
We know.Yes, we already know. She's in the lead.
Tonight is still worth the celebration in spite of that for a few big reasons...
1. It proved that we and Bernie have the ability to flip a state that favored Hillary in less than a week.
2. It proved that Bernie is certainly going strong and none of this is wishful thinking.
and finally...
3. It signified a turning of tables. This is where the true shift begins.
So to all of you who keep posting the delegate counts as if we're unaware... We know why you're doing it, and it isn't because you think we're unaware.
I think it's because you're likely worried about Hillary.
She's running out of southern states fast. And those who were on the fence before Michigan may well just be joining the Bernie campaign soon.
Next Tuesday is likely Hillary's last good day. And judging by how fast we could turn a state like Michigan... I wonder how fast we could turn some states on Super Tuesday 2. Either way, I can say this with conviction, I've never felt more confident in the effect of me and my fellow volunteers for Bernie. Clearly, we are doing something right.
I'm very proud of what my fellow volunteers and I have achieved tonight. Good night for now.

(45,251 posts)I thought that was pretty crappy, though par for the course so far. Says a lot, I think. Can't give your fellow DUers backing an underdog 2 fucking minutes to celebrate in peace.
I haven't congratulated Hillary, but I would not have dreamt of posting a downer OP about her here the nights she won.

(348 posts)sites. Just saying. It sounds like a campaign move and not an honest response from Hillary supporters. I think they'd post that but not immediately like that.
Karl Rove talked about millions he was spending on internet 8 years ago. Internet is too big of a voter hub to be ignored. I think they'd have to be here.

How am I cold for thanking someone for working on Bernies Campaign?

(1,524 posts)I think merrily read into your "I have to work and support my family" an implication that Sanders volunteers are lazy bums who don't work. It doesn't seem to me that you meant it that way, but that you meant it more as an "excuse" for not being able to volunteer more.
Sorry if I got either of you wrong, just wanted to diffuse tensions! :-D

(348 posts)If I even worked in the city I lived in, I could volunteer. I didn't mean anyone is lazy.

All their polls and all their delegate-count posts have been about trying to bring us down...
Well, I won't put much stock in polls after this,
or even a WHOLE BUNCH of polls...

Us Michigan folks don't care too much for being told
how we are 'going to vote',
nor for obvious pandering on the Flint water crisis...
Maybe others in the Midwest are like us!

(7,006 posts)Don't mean shit. To be frank and honest as possible. These are the same media resources for the most part, that endorsed Rick Snyder -- the Lead Poisoner of Flint, Michigan.
Again, polls in Michigan don't mean shit. People do. And the People are sick and tired of Corporate Democrats and Corporate Republicans.

(2,294 posts)that Bernie needs-a much needed psychological victory.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)But that is too fine of a point.
virgdem
(2,294 posts)is that Bernie was expected to win Maine and the MSM completely ignored the win. The Michigan win was not expected, with Bernie polling 20 points down, so the take away from that win is that he over performed and that changes the mindset and perception of both voters and, to some extent, the MSM. I only hope that Bernie can propel this important win into victories in the next slate of states to vote.

(1,446 posts)the nomination easily that they put off making a donation to her campaign. When talking to my mom tonight, she said that both she and dad are giving $2700, and wanted to know if they could donate the same amount in my name.

(1,217 posts)and I am almost maxed out for donations but my spouse is not and we are not wealthy. We volunteer and phone bank and all our darling millenials (with the exception of one nephew who poses for selfies holding weapons while draped in our flag) are with us. i am so proud of the younger generations and they are not shy.

(10,721 posts)I'm not convinced Clinton won't do well in Arizona (March 22), New York (April 19), Maryland and Pennsylvania (April 26), California and New Jersey and New Mexico (June 7) and Washington DC (June 14). Not to mention Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
Especially if she wins big on March 15 (and bumps her delegate lead up to 350+), which would impact the results in the states mentioned above. Sanders needs to win at least a couple of states on the 15th (3 of the 5 have similar demographics to Michigan).
Every state being proportional makes overcoming a delegate deficit of 200+ mighty difficult.

(3,128 posts)She would be doing great if she were running for the presidency of the Confederate States of America. Most of the states she has won so far (her wins in Nevada and Massachusetts have clouds over them) will go Republican probably throughout the rest of my life.
Simply out, she can not win the general election which begs the question why the DNC and establishment Dems support her unless their corporate masters would rather have a Republican in the White House.

(22,165 posts)(I voted for Sanders, but it was essentially a flip of the coin decision for me ... the net sums of Sanders / Clinton's positives and negatives are essentially equal to me)
Looking at the voting patterns in Michigan Sanders won the rural white vote handily .... Clinton won the urban and suburban vote as well as the votes of people of color.
This map illustrates the breakdown of how people in Michigan voted. Its very interesting and (at least in Michigan) highlights an urban vs rural divide.

Both seem to be pretty big and not worthy of dismissal.

(34,845 posts)Seriously, congratulations to Senator Sanders and his supporters. But I don't think bringing up the 'delicate matter' of the delegate counts means 'worry'. It still comes down to math in the end.

hillary's 0.3 points in Iowa was a tie.
Bernie's 1.2 points in Michigan is 4 times larger than that and outside the MOE.
plus when you count all the problems that happened with Iowa's caucuses and the undeniable fact that Dr. Andy (hill2016) McGuire refused any recount despite many protests, you have to admit that the final score there was fishy at best.

(6,007 posts)They can't run on the issues, they can't run on her history, all they have are lies, smears and dirty tricks. And they're going for another GOP standard . . voter suppression.
Why doesn't she just take the obvious step and run as a Republican?
