(88,117 posts)They may be here, but I don't know where they are. I am even careful what I say in conversations.
One interesting thing....nearly everyone I talk to says how about Trump...isn't he awful. or something similar.
I can't figure where he's getting all those votes.

There is one particularly staunch Republican in the office, though, who has said that she will vote for Bernie in the General.

Come to think of it, I'll be visiting my old stomping ground to see her, too this coming week. I'll shout a hello and see if you can hear my Bern!

(31,935 posts)A cop working the event told me "Everyone here has been so nice! It's such a big change from that Trump rally we worked recently; those people weren't very nice at all!" Ha! No kidding!
Once Bernie had left the stage, without prompting, probably half the people (myself included) there started cleaning up the field, putting bottles in recycle bins, etc. I doubt that Osceola Heritage Park has ever had tidier event!

(1,890 posts)I've watched a lot of the campaign videos and this is by far the best! Bernie has added a lot of very good information to his stump speech. Kudos to Bernie & the Sanders campaign staff. If you only watch one video this is the one to watch. Very inspiring. I'm tweeting this tonight. Thank you so much for posting this!

It was great to feel the Bern in person. Sorry trying to figure out how to post a picture.

(88,117 posts)There are several sites you can upload your picture and share the link from there. It will show as a picture here.
I use Photobucket. I think it is still free to use..
There are several others, but I can't think of them right now.

(15,435 posts)having some really bad problems with my back for the last 6 months. Several people on my street went and can't wait to hear from them. My group will probably have pictures up. There were two invites I got, one for UF and the other for Tampa Fair Grounds.
There's been a feeling in the air around here, but I'm afraid to to hope because we're a closed Primary state. So many people worked hard to get people re-registered & I know in my area long lines out the door at Supervisor of Elections office.
Not sure if they were switching party affiliation FOR Bernie or FOR Trump. But, I've never seen this happen here in my county.
Please let this happen!

(24,411 posts)Reported earlier that 600 attended Clinton's afternoon rally.
That's quite the discrepancy between Bernie's 9000!
Divernan
(15,480 posts)Plus, the estimate is not sourced - typically comes from her staff so probably "rounded up" 100% from 300. That's what we saw when Bill spoke to a sparse crowd in Pittsburgh.

(24,411 posts)I love to see Bernie smiling!! He looks so happy. He has to be blown away by the crowds that he is getting. You can feel the support and electricity in that room. People are going crazy for him.
I saw Bernie a few times in Iowa, and he was so terrific. But there has been a change. Bernie seems a bit more relaxed and I'm seeing him smile more in Florida. I think he knows that he broke through in Michigan. I think he can feel the tide turning.
I am just so happy for Bernie. This race has been stressful for us. Imagine the toll that it's taken on him.
Just so wonderful to see him happy and smiling.

(24,010 posts)And ends on the most beautiful thing Sanders has ever said.
Once you get past the stump parts of his speech (which he delivers especially well here), he launches into an attack on Trump like we have never seen before. After mentioning the polls that show Sanders beating Trump by big margins, he says, "We are going to defeat trump because the American people don't want a president who insults Mexicans, the American people don't want a president who insults Muslims, the American people don't want a president who insults women and the American people don't want a president who insults African Americans."
Then he plays on Trump's name: The American people know that bringing our people together (all races, all religions, gay and straight, native and immigrant) trumps divisiveness; we will defeat Trump because the American people know that community--helping each other--trumps selfishness; and we will defeat Trump because the American people know "what every religion in the world has taught us, that, at the end of the day: love trumps hatred!"
Really great conclusion!

(15,480 posts)Sanders did add some new material to Thursday's stump speech: he touted his upset win over Clinton in this week's Michigan primary. He used that victory to whip up the crowd in anticipation of Florida's primary on Tuesday.
"I'm getting the feeling that what we saw in Michigan, we're going to see here in Florida," he said. "The reason that we are doing so well, the reason there is so much momentum for this campaign, is that we're doing something pretty radical in American politics: we're telling the truth.
"And here are some of the truths we are telling: No. 1, no president, not Bernie Sanders or anyone else, can address the very serious crisis we face alone. "We need a political revolution. You are that revolution."
Despite trailing in the polls, Sanders flat-out declared that "if there is a large voter turnout (in Florida), we will win." He also aimed a few barbs at the GOP frontrunner, Trump. If they go head-to-head in the general election on Nov. 8, Sanders said he will win.
"Love trumps hatred," he said.

(35,933 posts)This man who really works to enfold people who've seldom been engaged in politics, shows that he doesn't feel entitled to the presidency.
When hoarse, hardworking Bernie tells Tampa that buying an election is oligarchy, when they roar as he claims, "Our veterans have fought to hard to preserve this democracy and we're not going to let that oligarchy win!" I'm really proud of this old man's energy. I love seeing PoC, Muslims, youth, and hearing his Brooklyn accent.

(85,975 posts)...it's called organization, a staple of successful campaigns.
The crowds are awesome, though.
madfloridian
(88,117 posts)Unfortunately. There may be some districts that are the exception, but most everything here has been geared to Hillary so long...it's discouraging for newcomers.
Yes, the Dems in FL are organized, but they have avoided new ideas, new people too long.

(32,886 posts)someone who supposedly generates a lot of excitement. I lived there for 12 years before moving back to NYC. You can get just about anywhere in the metro area in 45 minutes. Still he had only 9000 people.
Again, if he is generating "excitement" I would expect many more thousands to show up in that area.
Edited to change to over 4 million instead of 3 million. Looks like it has grown since I left!
madfloridian
(88,117 posts)You do it so well.
stevenleser
(32,886 posts)That's Bernie's job and the job of his campaign.
The problem you have here is you and others here are trying to assert that Bernie is generating so much darn excitement that he would be a better general election candidate. But this doesn't look like that many people in the Tampa Bay area find him exciting.
It looks like 9000 people find him that exciting, but not much more than that.

(10,795 posts)How many showed up for Hillary's rally in Tampa?
stevenleser
(32,886 posts)Hillary supporters are not claiming that there is this unnatural excitement happening in her campaign. We're asserting that a very sober examination of her abilities and command of the issues will result in folks pulling the lever for her over the Republican crazies.
It's the contention of Bernie supporters that there is an army of excited people that will drive extra voters to the polls to elect him.

find me other candidates drawing 9,000 and you'll maybe find one other...and we know who he is...

(62,325 posts)Hillary's campaign manager said to her back when Bernie announced 'do you KNOW this guy, he's a fierce campaigner, do not underestimate him'. A warning they took to mean that if they just LIED about him and blocked him from media coverage, send out racist talkiing points and make false accusations, people would run from him to Hillary.
That was a huge mistake.
