Ohio's Jon Husted to appeal ruling about 17 yr olds voting. Says Bernie's suit is "political".

Apparently today's ruling was separate from the suit filed by the Bernie Sanders' campaign.

Apparently Jon Husted thinks this is all political. Here's his reaction to today's ruling, and his words about Bernie's suit that has been filed against him.

Wow, he's stubborn. I gather that 17 year olds who turn 18 before November have already been voting in the primary. He must have quietly put a stop to it.

Ohio official calls Bernie Sanders' lawsuit a 'political act'

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted is holding his ground when it comes to a ban against 17-year-olds participating in the state's March 15 primary election.

A federal lawsuit Bernie Sanders filed Tuesday to allow the state's 17-year-olds to cast ballots is “just a last-minute political act to kind of draw attention to his campaign,” said Husted, a Republican, on CNN this morning.

“Eleventh hour lawsuits are something that we’ve come to expect, but it’s a tragedy that it’s happening,” Husted said, adding that 17-year-olds “can vote. They just can’t vote on every issue.”

Ohio is among more than 20 states with a “threshold voter law” allowing 17-year-olds who will turn 18 by the general election in November to vote in primaries. Husted, the state’s top elections official, issued a directive in December blocking 17-year-olds from voting in presidential primaries.

Later Friday, a county court in Ohio issued an order in a separate case, allowing 17-year-olds to cast ballots. Husted said he would appeal.

17-year-olds should be allowed to vote in the primary if they turn 18 by November.

for an appeal to subvert the process in time. I could be wrong of course but
I don't see how they'll pull this off in time.

I hope the kids get to vote.

We saw it all the while gay marriage rights were being contested in the courts. The only question is whether higher court will issue a stay of lower court's ruling pending the appeal, which probably can't be scheduled before the primaries anyway. If not, Mr Husted will just have to gnash his teeth in impotence.

so it's political and I don't see why 17 year olds who will be 18 by November aren't allowed to have a say on who may be on that ballot. But I said the same thing back when I was 17 going on 18 as it didn't make sense to me then either.

Do anything you can to suppress the vote from a segment of voters that votes against you.
