2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJust imagine a presidential race in 2016 between a socialist and a facsist
There's no middle ground there. Imagine what the centrist party liners would do, from each side.
Imagine the debates. Imagine the media coverage.

When they keep pulling the overton window further right, and Democrats keep falling over themselves tro race for the new middle, even basic human decency starts to look "leftist"

On a scale of democracy to tyranny, centrism is...

(14,177 posts)But, we might get a race between a Theocrat and a Secularist. I suppose that could be interesting too. But, then I would have to look at Cruz speak. I wouldn't listen, the volume would just go down as he is talking and back up when it's Bernie's turn.

(50,254 posts)The title "Ni Chicha Ni Limona" (a Chilean expression which translates literally as "Neither beer nor lemonade", and which basically refers to fencesitters who won't make up their minds) was about people who claimed to support democracy but wouldn't defend the democratically elected Popular Unity government against the reactionaries who were already working with Nixon and Kissinger to stage a "free-market" fascist coup...the coup in which Victor and Salvador Allende would be killed)
Arrímese mas pa' ca
aquí donde el sol calienta,
si uste' ya está acostumbrado
a andar dando volteretas
y ningún daño le hará
estar donde las papas queman.
Usted no es na'
ni chicha ni limoná
se la pasa manoseando
caramba zamba su dignidad.
La fiesta ya ha comenzao
y la cosa está que arde
uste' que era el más quedao
se quiere adueñar del baile
total a los olfatillos
no hay olor que se les escape.
Si queremos más fiestoca
primero hay que trabajar
y tendremos pa' toítos
abrigo, pan y amistad
y si usted no está de acuerdo
es cuestión de uste' nomás
la cosa va pa' delante
y no piensa recular.
Ya déjese de patillas
venga a remediar su mal
si aquí debajito 'el poncho
no tengo ningún puñal
y si sigue hociconeando
le vamos a expropiar
las pistolas y la lengua
y toíto lo demás.

(17,320 posts)Public Schools, Libraries, fire and police departments, social security and the military are all forms of a Social Democratic government. The Cold War fear mongering hype about the dangers of Communism to our
way of life have kept the people coward down, fearing that they were going to loose everything.
Communism has proven to be a terrible, ineffective form of Govt. Meanwhile, our Government changed from
Democracy to a fascist style unbridled Capitalism and Oligarchy. Our young people are leading the way just as Robert Kennedy, shortly prior to his assassination said that they would do.
