"Republican" for my taste. I agree with the commenter who had never seen that much chemistry between her and Obama. The Clintons and the Bushes are tight. and some of my other relatives were telling jokes and laughing loud at a family funeral. I was so upset that I was crying (funeral of an aunt I loved very much). I thought it was disrespectful. He got down on my level, gave me a big hug and told me that a funeral is a celebration of life, and nothing to be sad and serious about. He told me I had to get over my feeling of loss and celebrate that she was pain free and in Heaven with her brothers, God, Jesus, etc. and they were probably having their own celebration.

Didn't buy it then, don't buy it now, but I try to keep it in mind when I see others acting that way. If they believe that way, who am I to rain on it at their loved one's funeral.

On the other hand, I *WAS* wondering if it was just tea that Lil' Boots was drinking out of that tea cup.

They're just being honest!

You should read "The Presidents' Club" - very enlightening about how most ex-Presidents become close after they leave office because only the other ex-Presidents realize what they went through.

Jimmy Carter's one of my all-time favorite Presidents but the book points out that he is an absolute pain to get along with and none of the former Presidents like him.

Tue Mar 15, 2016, 11:42 AM

Carter is apparently still very bitter about losing the election to Reagan. Which I can understand. Teddy Kennedy did contribute to the loss by challenging Carter and Carter loathes the whole Kennedy family. In private, according to the book, Carter has always sought to undermine Bill Clinton. Carter hoped to be influential with Barack Obama but after Obama met him, he decided to keep his distance!

In person he is, it seems, very argumentative and goes out of his way to be disagreeable. He has on several occasions made public statements intended to undermine whichever President is currently in office.

The odd thing from the book is that Democratic Presidents get along better with Republican Presidents and vice-versa. Carter did become friends with Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush became friends.

As much as I loathed Dubya, after he left the Presidency he conformed to the Presidents' Club mentality (no doubt taught him by his father) and has never expressed a breath of criticism of President Obama. Which is nice. If only Cheney would shut up.

The picture shows us two members of the power elite sharing a moment. The closeness, the obvious camaraderie, are plain to see. Other than that, it is silly (to me) to complain that they are laughing at a funeral. We don't know what they were laughing about.

It's ridiculous for people to make blank judgments based on who public figures are with in a photo. The photo of Jr. and Hillary was taken either before or after Nancy's funeral. There are only a handful of first families. Bill and Bush Sr. became friends when Jr. asked them to help raise funds in the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake. As far as I know, Hillary is not close to them. Laura seems to be the one she gets along the best. I remember seeing Laura in an interview after they left the WH and when asked who was her favorite Democrat she responded, Hillary.

"A day before her husband, Sen. Bernie Sanders, was set to hold a presidential campaign rally in Phoenix, Jane Sanders held an impromptu event of her own, verbally sparring with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio before touring his outdoor jail known as Tent City.
Outside Tent City, Sanders asked Arpaio about racial profiling, but Arpaio declined to answer, citing legal concerns. Arpaio's Maricopa County Sheriff's Office was found by a federal judge to have racially profiled Latinos during enforcement activities.
Following the tour, Sanders went to the headquarters of Puente, the immigrants rights organization, to meet with relatives of people arrested by Arpaio's office. One girl, who did not give her full name, told Sanders she fears Arpaio coming to take her parents away again."

A mere hug is nothing to get bent out of shape about. I ran against a really conservative evangelical pastor for city council and we ended up being friends after the election, yet I'm still a really liberal Democrat. It's petty to even nitpick about this picture.

I suppose that's one reason I couldn't be a politician. Hugging and being super friendly with someone I knew was responsible for murder on a massive scale... I don't think I'd handle it well.

Well, I don't consider any Clinton supporter to be a "liberal Democrat."

Might as well embrace your Third-Wayness. It's yours; you've earned it.
