I personally think it's a very good picture but they sure do look close! I've never seen her have this chemistry with Obama.

(12,704 posts)Hillary had a full-toothed smile. It could be coincidence that the camera panned just when something the daughter said was humorous. It was odd because said has the same smile listening to Bernie in debates. Its as if she has been told that if any cameras are present anywhere glue a big smile on her face.

(11,945 posts)"Republican" for my taste. I agree with the commenter who had never seen that much chemistry between her and Obama. The Clintons and the Bushes are tight. George calls Bill his "brother from another mother." And so you, in your loyalty, can feel free to like and appreciate Dubya right along with her. She'd probably appreciate it. Just one big happy family.

(1,054 posts)And while Hillary's talking, Bernie is always gesticulating and trying to interrupt her. So Bernie's not exactly a role model of proper decorum either is he?
nichomachus
(12,754 posts)If you don't interrupt Mrs. Clinton, you don't get a chance to talk. She has a binder full of lies, half truths, distortions, and disractions. She can hurl them at you all day.
And she still won't release her transcripts. Makes you wonder what's in them.

(11,914 posts)and some of my other relatives were telling jokes and laughing loud at a family funeral. I was so upset that I was crying (funeral of an aunt I loved very much). I thought it was disrespectful. He got down on my level, gave me a big hug and told me that a funeral is a celebration of life, and nothing to be sad and serious about. He told me I had to get over my feeling of loss and celebrate that she was pain free and in Heaven with her brothers, God, Jesus, etc. and they were probably having their own celebration.
Didn't buy it then, don't buy it now, but I try to keep it in mind when I see others acting that way. If they believe that way, who am I to rain on it at their loved one's funeral.
On the other hand, I *WAS* wondering if it was just tea that Lil' Boots was drinking out of that tea cup.

(11,914 posts)I can remember he and my father got into a heated discussion one time because he said that Native Americans down through history would never get into heaven because they didn't have the Bible until "we" introduced them to it. Only those and those born after them would be allowed in Heaven.
I guess divorce didn't bother him much since both he and my aunt had been divorced previously.

(38 posts)They're just being honest!
You should read "The Presidents' Club" - very enlightening about how most ex-Presidents become close after they leave office because only the other ex-Presidents realize what they went through.
Jimmy Carter's one of my all-time favorite Presidents but the book points out that he is an absolute pain to get along with and none of the former Presidents like him.
Zira
(1,054 posts)He seems like an easy going gentle man in interviews.

(38 posts)Carter is apparently still very bitter about losing the election to Reagan. Which I can understand. Teddy Kennedy did contribute to the loss by challenging Carter and Carter loathes the whole Kennedy family. In private, according to the book, Carter has always sought to undermine Bill Clinton. Carter hoped to be influential with Barack Obama but after Obama met him, he decided to keep his distance!
In person he is, it seems, very argumentative and goes out of his way to be disagreeable. He has on several occasions made public statements intended to undermine whichever President is currently in office.
The odd thing from the book is that Democratic Presidents get along better with Republican Presidents and vice-versa. Carter did become friends with Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush became friends.
As much as I loathed Dubya, after he left the Presidency he conformed to the Presidents' Club mentality (no doubt taught him by his father) and has never expressed a breath of criticism of President Obama. Which is nice. If only Cheney would shut up.

(10,751 posts)...because of hos cozy they look together, I would never fault anyone for having a laugh while off on the sidelines, whether at a funeral or any other event.
The picture shows us two members of the power elite sharing a moment. The closeness, the obvious camaraderie, are plain to see. Other than that, it is silly (to me) to complain that they are laughing at a funeral. We don't know what they were laughing about.

Hillary will likely be President at this time next year. She will have to negotiate daily with Republicans. Many of whom still love and support W (bleh!). The picture looks Presidential and will help attract moderates in the general.

(30,247 posts)It's ridiculous for people to make blank judgments based on who public figures are with in a photo. The photo of Jr. and Hillary was taken either before or after Nancy's funeral. There are only a handful of first families. Bill and Bush Sr. became friends when Jr. asked them to help raise funds in the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake. As far as I know, Hillary is not close to them. Laura seems to be the one she gets along the best. I remember seeing Laura in an interview after they left the WH and when asked who was her favorite Democrat she responded, Hillary.

(45,319 posts)"A day before her husband, Sen. Bernie Sanders, was set to hold a presidential campaign rally in Phoenix, Jane Sanders held an impromptu event of her own, verbally sparring with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio before touring his outdoor jail known as Tent City.
Outside Tent City, Sanders asked Arpaio about racial profiling, but Arpaio declined to answer, citing legal concerns. Arpaio's Maricopa County Sheriff's Office was found by a federal judge to have racially profiled Latinos during enforcement activities.
Following the tour, Sanders went to the headquarters of Puente, the immigrants rights organization, to meet with relatives of people arrested by Arpaio's office. One girl, who did not give her full name, told Sanders she fears Arpaio coming to take her parents away again."

And let me start off by acknowledging what I think all of you already know. And that is the views that many here at Liberty University have and I, on a number of important issues, are very, very different. I believe in a woman's rights....
And the right of a woman to control her own body.
I believe gay rights and gay marriage.
Those are my views, and it is no secret. But I came here today, because I believe from the bottom of my heart that it is vitally important for those of us who hold different views to be able to engage in a civil discourse."
