2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAm I imagining things to think that MSNBC rigged the Town Halls?
I watched Bernie's part of the show and it was interesting, with Bernie doing as good a job as usual, but the audience was stony and mostly silent, as if they'd been told to keep quiet. The setting was entirely bare with a lot of empty space, nothing on the shiny wooden floor. Chuck Todd I thought did an all-right job of asking questions, but the reaction of the audience was muted to say the least, as if they'd been told not to respond too enthusiastically or maybe programmed to act dead. Several of the questioners were very nervous and certainly not trained actors.
After watching Bernie I turned it off, not really interested in what HRC would have to say. But toward end I happened to flip the TV on and I saw just a bit of it, a broadly smiling Hillary, a loud, bright venue w/ close quarters, a lot of color, loud applause. It sounded and looked like a completely different universe, no more gloom and doom but "Happy days are here again," a festive atmosphere. The one question I heard seemed very well rehearsed and was delivered with histrionic poise and energy. It looked like they'd been drinking wine after a big banquet, like "Join the party and vote for Hillary!"
Am I imagining things? Those who saw both of the Town Halls, HRC's and Bernie's, what do you think?

(3,660 posts)At least we didn't have Chris Mathews yelling at Bernie for an hour.

(25,253 posts)Hillary's will be played first at still a reasonable time in the CST but Bernie's in the wee hours of the morning.

(50,130 posts)I believe the audience at Todd's event was instructed not to applaud or express reaction. There was nothing.
Hillary's event was revved up with cheering and screaming and so on.
I noticed how subdued Bernie's audience was, immediately. Out of character.
Even though Chuckie T's questions were way better than I expected and Bernie was really on message and doing a great job....that audience was very strange. I watched about 15 minutes of Hillary and it was totally different atmosphere...but, since I can't stand Chris and have heard most of what Hillary was saying, I turned it off.
I think it's Comcast and what they've done to MSNBC. Even though Chucky T and Chris are long time...we, who've been around for awhile, know what both are about. Hopefully, those who watched at home, saw how well Bernie answered the questions, and explained what he and "The Revolution" is about, will vote for him tomorrow. Thought he did a great job!
