2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumUgh. I feel sick. Probably going to be president Clinton
Great. A republican wannabe that won't do jack shit to wall st. Has yelled out that single payer will never happen. Spoke publicly not too long ago that marriage was between one man and one woman. Someone who was all for the TPP until several weeks ago.
Just. Ugh

(32,861 posts)This country is full of complete stupidity. There is no compassion. No one cares about 29 million without healthcare, dead black children in the street at the hands of the police, working for slave wages, climate disaster... I could go on and on but, fuck....

(1,588 posts)Trump and Clinton- two of the worst presidential candidates ever. And you know if Clinton ever became president she, in a heartbeat, would resume her Wall Street, billionaire, basically right-wing ideals. I have never seen anyone change positions faster than Hillary or have so many crazy gaffes in such a short time.

(8,352 posts)choose a real Republican over a Democrat pretending to be one every time. After eight years of a Democratic White House, the pendulum will swing to the right.
Party Democrats may hold their noses and vote against Trump by being forced to vote for Clinton, but independents and the youth will not. The youngsters will just stay at home. They will be fucked either way so why bother. A new Assassin's Creed will be out, or they will have finals before Thanksgiving, and they won't turn out at all. Independents will vote as we always do for the person that best represents us. It won't be Clinton or Trump so it will likely be the Green candidate.
I do think the handwringing is a bit premature. Sanders will gain delegates tonight, and no matter how many she wins tonight, she still will not have that magical number needed to win. The upcoming states lean far more progressive. NC & FL are both southern conservative states. I know, I grew up in NC and had some family in FL. Ohio is not progressive in the least. I went to college there. IL has not yet been called and the same is true of Missouri.
I am not going dark just yet thanks.

How does your criticism make any sense unless President Obama is also a Republican wannabe? And I think it is silly to suggest that about our fine president.
If Hillary becomes our nominee why don't you give her a chance? Maybe she will surprise you.
For the record, I will vigorously support Senator Sanders if he is our party's nominee.

Neither supported gay marriage for decades. Neither opposed TPP, the 'gold standard'. Neither fought for single payer ever!
I have known the Clinton Machine since the 1980's. I will never be surprised. I will never give her or him another chance.
StevieM
(10,500 posts)I thought I was being pretty clear.
President Obama isn't for single payer, took awhile to support gay marriage, and is for TPP. And yet I don't see how anyone can say that he is not a good Democrat, or that he is a Republican wannabe.
Have you forgotten about all the good that President Obama has done for this country?

Think about how he raised taxes on the wealthy.
Think about how the economy has improved so greatly, with unemployment falling from over 10 percent to under 5 percent.
Think about how he created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Think about how blocked the Ryan Budget and stopped the privatization of Medicare and Social Security.
And think about how appointed two great Justices to the hight court, including Sonia Sotomayer, who is arguably the best appointment to the Supreme Court in the last 60 years, since William Brennan was placed on the Court.

I guess some of the Hi11ary supporters are struggling with cognitive dissonance...

(1,588 posts)Of course my post would be alerted- I would expect nothing less here. People want to keep their blinders on. They have bought into the cult of Hillary. Truth is the Hillary supporters worst enemy.
A few days ago someone posted an unfavorable Hillary comment made by someone who had been involved in government. The Hillary supporter called the person who had originally composed the comment a "right-wing" hack. I did the research and the person who had originally composed that comment regarding Hillary was a speech writer for Robert F. Kennedy.
When did the Kennedys and those who worked with them become "right wing" hacks? I was a kid when JFK and RFK were assassinated. How can a Hillary supporter say something so horrible? This is what we are dealing with!
I suspect "cognitive dissonance" is the kindest thing we could say about some Hillary supporters though many most likely have no idea what that term means.

Just think: although genuine Bernistas will be unhappy, so will the paid Koch-roach spammers deployed by the GOP and various right-wing fronts to pretend to be Sanders supporters who will see all their hard work and deceit undone by the American electorate.

(9,117 posts)And now a little question fr the newbies: do you have the determination and persistence to keep marching towards the prize a little over two years from now, or are you going to sit on your lazy backsides like the 2008 novelty voters and Gen-X voters whose indolence helped the Tea-Baggers so much in 2010 and most recently in 2014?

(39,215 posts)be just the beginning. And that it would take a long time to get where we wanted to go. So all of us who worked so hard for this candidate need to understand that in this election Bernie gave us a voice. In the 2018 election we need to rise up again and make sure we get as many true progressives into power as we can.
Do not drop out. In 68 when RFK was killed I wanted to never care again and then they followed it up with the 68 convention and I actually hated Humphrey. But my dad talked me into voting. Then I worked for McGovern and the damned establishment screwed us over again.
Bernie is the leader I have been waiting for but he does not have to be in the WH to lead us. Many of us have been following him for a long time. This is no time to quit.
And I ask all of you Bernie supporters who are in those states that have not voted yet to get out there an vote. Show her exactly how few of us are supporting her. Give it all you got.
Vote for whomever you want in the GE but continue this fight for Bernie.
dana_b
(11,546 posts)but you know that it will be worse now. The MSM will be spewing "why doesn't he just give up?" "She's inevitable, it's OVER!!"
That alone will deflate some enough not to vote or to just vote for her. Not me, but definitely some.

(18,837 posts)He's kept his checkbook in the drawer, but now he's ready to start writing checks...for Trump. He also bought the most influential newspaper in the state of Nevada, the Review Journal.
If Hillary becomes the nominee, her treatment at the hands of the GOP will make Kerry's swiftboating look like a belly rub.
Every single piece of Hillary's dirty laundry will be trotted out for public display. Every time she "misspoke." All of it. 24 hours, 7 days a week, of Benghazi...and that's just for starters. And for anyone in her camp who feels like that's beating a dead horse, in the world of "Fox News Fans," it most certainly is not.
There will not be a cakewalk to the coronation, no matter how giddy sher supporters may be after last night.
If it's Hillary vs. Trump, he will destroy her by any means necessary. Count on it. He will follow the Lee Atwater and Karl Rove playbook. She will spend so much time on defense that she will have no time for offense. In the Super Bowl, the Bronco's defense won the game. In the election, it won't.
