Turnout - Florida/Ohio - What's going on?

Two critical states for the GE are and have been Florida and Ohio. Clinton scored big in both states, but the Demcoratic turnout versus the GOP turnout is not a good harbinger.

Florida turnout

Democrats - 1699224 - 42.1%
Republicans -2336839 - 57.9%

Ohio turnout

Democrats - 1202064 - 37.2%
Republicans -2031963 - 62.8%

These are big swing states in the GE, and 16% voted more GOP than Democratic in Florida, and 26% voted more GOP than Democratic in Ohio.

Why was the turnout differences so large?

I rarely use these smiley things but for gods sake, that may have been the message 6-8 months ago but to imply that is what is being heard now, or recently, patently absurd.

Sound familiar? If you think that was 6-8 months ago what sensory deprivation device have you been living in the last 6?

every freaking day.

When the NYTimes changes an article because it's too positive for Bernie, there is a problem! But those who love their corporate Queen won't see it.

4. Perhaps many Dems were fine with either candidate as nominee.

Sadly, as a precinct chair, I know some Dems who only come out to vote in November.

It's somewhat expected that there presence on the ballot would draw more voters. The Stop Trump movement might also be drawing more participation.

Florida voters are elderly voters, which means Republican voters. When the highlight of your day is going out to vote, because it is something to do, you go out and vote. Doesn't surprise me that Republican turn-out is higher in the primaries where the younger voters are at work, in the General elections I believe the Dems will turn out. Assuming nothing of interest is on the TV.

we do everything in our power to discourage our base, then when they don't vote as a result, we ridicule and blame them for being discouraged.

Fucking party needs to be forcibly deconstructed from the top down and reconstructed from the bottom up. It will never reform willingly.

More of the people that normally vote in the GE and skip the GOP primary showed up yesterday.

17. In Florida 50696 Dem's voted less this year than 2008, while 387341 more Republicans voted than 2008

The turnout this year was bad for Dems in Florida and big for the GOP. That's a big swing.
