When Hillary Clinton praised Nancy Reagans response to AIDS shortly before Reagans funeral, Dominic Lowells phone blew up.
......I cant think of a single moment that was as quick and effective as they dealt with the statement surrounding Nancy Reagan, said Bill Burton, who went toe to toe with Clintons campaign in 2008 as a spokesman for then-Sen. Barack Obama.
Hillary Clinton evolves on gay marriage; calls for Supreme Court support
The incident showed that while Clintons long history in the public spotlight can be a liability among voters looking for fresh voices, it has also provided her with guardrails that have kept the campaign from spinning off the road when things go wrong.
The campaign was able to take advantage of long-standing relationships within the gay community. The president of the Human Rights Campaign, Chad Griffin, for example, got his start in politics as an 18-year-old volunteer for Bill Clinton in his first presidential campaign. Old ties like that allowed Hillary Clinton aides to quickly reach leading activists and craft a response designed to tamp down a growing furor.
You forgive your friends, said Elizabeth Birch, a former leader of the Human Rights Campaign.
The controversy started when Clinton sat down for an interview with MSNBC before Reagans funeral in Simi Valley to talk about the former first lady. In a decision that would perplex and infuriate supporters, Clinton raised the AIDS issue on her own.....................

(45,319 posts)say sorry' politics. The OP is posted by a straight Hillary supporter lecturing a minority about their own issues. Hillary supporters often accuse others of doing that. So don't do that.

(29,503 posts)The patronage she'll potentially give to her GLBT supporters in the form of contracts, jobs and domestic policy is probably the biggest reason why, IMHO.

A new internal diversity report reveals the Human Rights Campaign has a sexist work environment where only 'gay, white, male' employees advance into leadership positions.

The OP has two honest words 'take advantage' as in "The campaign was able to take advantage of long-standing relationships".

(960 posts)You are accountable for your choice of words, think before you speak! especially if you want to become the leader of this country.

(2,197 posts)I don't think that this specific case is a case of "misspeaking" but sometimes a person actually does mean things one way and those words are taken in another way for unknown reasons.
No human being communicates effectively 100% of the time.

(2,197 posts)my post specifically said that this specific case was excluded.
Are you such a special snowflake that you haven't misspoken about ANYTHING?
I'm not.
I specifically excluded Clinton's comments from your very generalized statement.
People can and do misspeak was my only point. I never said that Hillary Clinton did misspeak in this case, so get off of your moral sanctified horse with me.

(960 posts)a breeding ground for dishonest people. I am teaching my girls to become stand up persons, someone that others can look up too. There is no such thing as misspeaking especially not for someone who wants to hold the highest office in this country. I am sorry Hillary Cheersquad, she is a blatant liar and has been exposed on numerous occasions. If you want to use that as a role model for your children, please go ahead...but you will reap what you sow.

(960 posts)think before they speak. Who don't make stuff up so they don't have to retract afterwards what they have said. I notice that you have with this notion a lot of problems. In the end it all boils down to the person you would want to be, you feel compelled to march along or behind someone of questionable statute when it comes to her being lose and fast with the truth. And I believe I need to point these things out to my daughters so they can identify this kind of behavior and not become like that. Should you not grasp the concept of this then I pitty you and those that are dear to you. So..maybe this is enough to press the "report" button for you now?

(2,197 posts)I'm saying that you can teach your daughters to think before they speak all that you want to but there will come a point in time where they will make misstatements, no matter how honorable they are...because they are human and may not have all of the facts necessary to communicate effectively in a given situation (which is quite contrary to how I feel about Clinton's Reagan statements here, actually)
Haven't you EVER made a misstatement?
I know that I have.
I know that I have made statements thinking one way, only to have them construed in another way for whatever reason. I've hurt people's feelings when I have made those statements.
Sometimes I ONLY see my POV on things.
Making misstatements and errors in judgment is a part of being a fallible human being.

(960 posts)If she would have put those peoples lives before her greed they would be still around. You cannot with a straight face and knowing the facts about her and her choices think that she has what it takes to run this country.
We all make mistakes, but hardly any of them have such a profound effect on other peoples lives and lively hoods. Knowing that I could not go to sleep with a good conscious that that women could ever be put in a position where she could do even greater harm.

(2,197 posts)I actually don't think Clinton's comments were an innocent "mistake" and I did not vote for Clinton in the primary nor am I defending her statements here (and if I have, please show me where I did).
Based on those comments, though you made a very very general statement about the nature of "mistakes" and "missstatement" and I challenged it.
In other words, you made a misstatement that mischaracterized my position...see how easy that is.
