They all have to put up a facade of debate and disagreement. Their billionaire backers know there is a chance the candidate they back may not win. I think the message has come down to them all that who ever wins they are to walk in lockstep behind the GOP winner.
Money does not come without strings no matter who the candidate is.

Tonight's Republican debate was easily one of the worst of the presidential campaign.

Mitt Romney was armed with opposition research on Rick Santorum but didn't come close to a knock out. The audience -- which was definitely slanted towards Romney -- helped cover for many clumsy mistakes. His attempts to throw red meat to conservatives exacerbated his in-authenticity. Nonetheless, Romney did not lose and at the very least held his ground.

Santorum acted as though he was still a non-contender. It's almost as if he decided in the middle of the debate to run for vice president instead. He also showed how hard it is to run for president with a U.S. Senate voting record. However, he did real damage to Romney in their heated exchange on RomneyCare.

Newt Gingrich scored many points but it's unclear how he gains against either Santorum or Romney. In the end, he wasn't much of a factor.

Ron Paul, as always, was consistent on both advancing his libertarian agenda and in helping Romney by attacking Santorum.

The real winner tonight was President Obama. After 20 debates, his potential rivals have done wonders for his re-election chances.

You forgot the biggest problem. CNN inexplicably gave John King the stage to moderate! He is a great numbers man...but totally ineffectual as a moderator. No follow-up. The one time he tried, he cowardly backed off. To allow Mitt to say, "You ask the questions, I'll answer anything I want" is unbelievably inexcusable for a news org.

Agree Obama won. No match against these un-Christian-like, warmongers.

Disagree on Santorum...he held his own...just because of his genuineness. He is a solid nutcase, and does not waiver.

Romney no gain, whatsoever. Automaton: programmed, a no-soul, bit of nothingness.

Yes, Newt, the calm, experienced conservative voice, IMHO. Disagree with him 99% of the time, but he's a genuine foe.

Ron Paul? if you took 1/2 of what he says and threw it away..we might be somewhere

Santorum came out on top.

Really he just held his ground, so did Santorum.

but the Media annoiting him the winner will help his campaign I guess.

if it is the usual non-descript debate, they use whatever frame they had in mind before it started - witness debates between Bush and Bore, Bush and Kerry and McCain and Obama. In all cases, the D most often won on substance pretty clearly, but the "liberal media" went with whatever frames most positively portrayed the R/negatively portrayed the D.
