(3,660 posts)Rank idolization like many had for Hillary is more transferrable to another idol.
I think many Bernie supporters don't worship at the altar of Bernie, but rather are enthusiastic about his policies and the fact that for once we have an honest, uncorrupted, politician that isn't on the take, or a warmonger running for office.
I think asking many of those supporters to flip to support someone they literally watched tell lie after lie on TV - that is corrupt, is a warmonger, is probably guilty of crimes even without indictments, and so on - is going to be a tougher sell than many think.
Bernie's supporters aren't Bernie disciples like Hillary followers. They are supporting the policies, practices, positions of Bernie and not idolizing him in the same way that many idolize Hillary. Even if Bernie loses and endorses Hillary, just because Bernie says he endorses her isn't going to change how people view Hillary.
For the inevitable jurors
The Terms of Service clearly state "But that does not mean that DU members are required to always be completely supportive of Democrats. During the ups-and-downs of politics and policy-making, it is perfectly normal to have mixed feelings about the Democratic officials we worked hard to help elect."

While I have enormous respect for Senator Sanders as a human being, this is not a cult of personality it's a cult of policy & principles. It wouldn't matter to me if God himself opened the heavens and endorsed HRC, there is simply no chance whatsoever that my conscience will ever allow me to vote for her.
To quote Hillary herself: "that will never, ever come to pass."

revbones
(3,660 posts)She may prevail.
But don't try to guilt or insult other people because they can't bend their principles as far as you might be able to, in order to vote for Hillary.
Facts are indeed facts. Subjective beliefs and insults are subjective. You may eventually realize that your beliefs are not necessarily that of others, and it's wrong to assume such.
KMOD
(7,906 posts)vote as you wish.
But once again, Democratic voters and Democratic leaning voters, overwhelming support Hillary Clinton.
That's a fact.
The majority of Democratic voters do not view both parties as the same, and they will overwhelmingly support Hillary Clinton in the General Election. They will do so based on their beliefs.
Your beliefs are yours. Do what you think is best. But don't claim that you speak for the majority of Democrats, because you don't.
revbones
(3,660 posts)First, you are guilting people. If you can't see that, well then there are other problems at hand.
Second, your statements are not facts. Democratic voters in the primarys have favored Hillary but not "overwhelmingly". "Democratic leaning voters" which I'm guessing you mean Independents that voted in Democratic primarys, overwhelmingly favor Bernie.
Those are actual facts.
You are the one claiming to speak for a majority of people which would seem to indicate quite the ego. I'm the one saying don't speak for people.

Does that work? Didn't think so. Even though unlike your premise I could substantiate that one by saying she would enter us into many wars.

Sanders supported HR 282, the Iran Freedom Support Act, which was similar to the resolutions leading to the Iraq War. And Sanders has stated that he too would use drones.

You may be able to live with yourself after voting for Hillary, but my thinking is that many will not be able to bend their principles as easily. There was a difference in 2008, and despite her running what many saw as an overtly racist campain against Obama and being pro DOMA at the time, most of the policy proposals and actual decisionsactions were similar enough to allow an easier transition in support. I don't feel that will be the case for many this year.

(17,656 posts). . . I could imagine Skinner saying, "The rebels must be destroyed".
In 2008 when the PUMA mantra first began here at DU, I felt that either they didn't understand how selfish they were to only support Hillary -- who constantly told lies about then-Senator Obama -- or that they were simply closet racists hoping to smash Obama and the rebellion.
When Hillary's own aides put pictures of Obama online wearing the traditional dress in Kenya, that was it for me.
I no longer wasted 5 minutes arguing with them, or discussing anything with them on this forum, I just left of my own accord.
But, this year, with the FBI conducting an investigation in to Hillary's server problems, there is only one candidate running for the office of President that even comes close to representing what I want the President to be . . . and that is Bernie Sanders.
