2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary didn't want to work this hard.
I think that may be why her campaign and supporters have put the nasty full court press on Bernie to end his campaign.
They expected to have no real competition at the beginning of this thing anyway. Hillary would travel around and talk to some people, raise a war chest for the GE and take it easy. Bernie changed all that.
Hillary has had to actually campaign (something she's told us she hates doing) because Bernie came on the scene and roused millions of supporters with his economic equality message who have donated small amounts - enough to keep Bernie in this race and be competitive to the end (WITHOUT big money fundraisers and PACs). If that's not a movement, I don't know what is.
So yeah, I think Hillary thought she'd coast to the nomination and then fight the GOP (her enemies! Yeah right). She wants it to end so she can rest.
Too bad, there's an entire half left to go.

(37,428 posts)Coronations are certainly convenient, but I'd like to think that Clinton has actually tried to be a better candidate because of the competition.
Avalux
(35,015 posts)Those saying this primary is damaging the party while blaming it on Bernie have it wrong. Hillary is damaging the party by showing her true colors, making it impossible for some to vote for her.

(45,251 posts)DLC brand. I don't know if that makes her a better candidate. Polls reflect a rate of disbelief and distrust.

(58,785 posts)it would of course be anyway if the nomination were already tied up. I'm very fond of books about political campaigns, and they are your life at this point, a grueling life.
When interviewed about Arizona results yesterday, Hillary was already focused ahead on Alaska and had to refocus to discuss the day's events (remember, she had good projections of the Arizona outcome hours before).
But most of her focus was on Trump and Cruz and defeating the menace from the right. As we really, really need it to be.

(94,518 posts)Clinton has been working hard for nearly a year. The only "coronation" expectations were in the fevered minds of the Sanders supporters.

(94,518 posts)And Sanders has had every opportunity to make that into a campaign issue; apparently most voters aren't bothered.
Maybe you should suggest he bring up Benghazi; I understand that REALLY gets the voters worked up.

(747 posts)is nothing compared to how Hillary smears poor Bernie throughout the 1st half, by using celebrities like ron simmons, civil rights heroes like john lewis dismissing Sanders being involved in the movement, and lied saying that she saw Hillary when Hillary was with one of the enemies of civil rights at that time - Goldwater himself, and the other corporate Dems. Oh yeah, lets not forget about DWS herself, who's rigging the whole process for her buddy.
KMOD
(7,906 posts)out of context.
And nobody is rigging anything. Hillary is winning democratic votes and delegates.

"And nobody is rigging anything"
DWS have been scheduling the democratic debates on weekends, especially on the worst days to even watch a debate
I think you knew about this and don't want to admit it. I also believe that you're just posting just to start unnecessary quarrels. I'm sorry, but I ain't the one. To the naughty list with you.
KMOD
(7,906 posts)Why does that bother you?
As the primary has gone on there have been more and more debates.

(11,076 posts)People can discuss and disagree without dis-ing one another. Hillary and Bernie are tough folk. We don't have to protect them. They owe it to the people to explain their ideas and present plans that we can each then decide on. If someone questions Hill it is not necessarily a smear. It might actually be a truth that is uncomfortable to hear. The same goes for Bernie. In addition they are both responsible for explaining their past actions and decisions. That is how we learn about them.

(99,710 posts)It is amazing what folks will say to advance their agenda...
There is a discussion on third trimester abortion. I said I was born on July 29th and asked if my mom would have been within her rights to abort me on July 28th, for any reason at all... Most said yes...
Try selling that to the American people or any people...But that is what passes for reasoned discussion on this board.

It's sad to me that you insult me and play a victim card rather than respond to the substance of my post.
It's sad to me that you've done that more than once, just in the last couple of hours.

She doesn't even drive a damn car for the past 20 years!
what you're saying is truly how she feels - I believe it myself, then the calling from the M$M, to the press, and to the Dems themselves, for Bernie to cease his campaign, will back your post up, BIG TIME.
marions ghost
(19,841 posts)I think you're right--they didn't want to do this. Exhausting having to fight for the primary and then gear right back up to fight in the GE. Extreme hazing for the Presidency.
That damn Bernie, appealing to all those voters...who does he think he is?
Is a movement. Whether people want to admit that or not.

(3,017 posts)They used to have to spend a large amount of their time begging for money, particularly House members who have to run for reelection every 2 years. Now all they have to do is vote the right way and sponsor legislation for their contributors, and the money comes pouring in.

(3,017 posts)Every day that goes by with small contributions pouring into Bernie's campaign and Bernie giving speeches to large, passionate crowds of supporters, contrasted with Hillary and Bill doing private fundraisers with high dollar donors and bundlers, makes Hillary look worse.
Hillary wants to move even further right, but the size of and passion in Bernie's movement is telling her the days of progressives swallowing whatever the Democratic establishment is peddling are over.

(12,504 posts)Absolutely NOTHING was being taken for granted. No coronation, no sitting on laurels, no pretending there would be no work involved. The assumption made in the op is absolutely ridiculous and made with the hope of belittling, and maligning the entire Hillary camp.
I am as confident that Hillary will win as some Sanders Supporters are that Bernie will win.... And we are working just as hard for every single vote.

Maybe he is feeling the pressure from his supporters as to why he does not have the lead in delegates. Check on the campaign team, how much pressure are they putting on Sanders.

(835 posts)I agree. Hillary was supposed to take this time off to prepare to win. Bernie comes, and he's not the first choice. Then he has some rallies. They're huge. It was not easy by any sense for her but it's Bernie running is good. She is working the kinks out and will be fully ready for Trump, who is also a populist candidate.
Hillary getting practice in is a good thing and should not be seen as a negative.
