2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSanders won 11 states to Hillary's 7 states; looks to build that lead to 14 to 7 states this weekend
while also expanding on his 590 to 515 Outside-the-Bible-Belt delegate lead.
Let's get this out of the way first: Hillary is the undisputed winner of the 13-state Bible Belt, and no one disagrees with that (hey, congratulations!):
In the rest of America, however, Sanders continues to build his lead over Hillary:
State.....Hillary Delegates.....Sanders Delegates
IA.....................23....................21
NH.....................9....................15
NV....................20....................15
CO....................28....................38
MA....................46....................45
MN....................31....................46
OK....................17.....................21
VT......................0.....................16
NE....................10.....................15
KS......................9.....................24
ME......................9.....................16
MI.....................63.....................67
IL......................78.....................78
MO....................36.....................35
OH....................81.....................62
AZ .. .44 ..... 31
UT ....6 ..... .27
ID .. 5 ..... .18
Total................515...................590 out of 1105
Both PredictWise and BornToRunTheNumbers project Sanders as the likely winner of all three contests this weekend:
Washington (Sanders 54% to Hillary 46% projected with Sanders a 97% favorite)
Alaska (Sanders 61% to Hillary 39% projected with Sanders a 93% favorite)
Hawaii (Sanders 58% to Hillary 42% projected with Sanders a 69% favorite)
How many states does Hillary have to lose outside of the Bible Belt before there is greater concern that Hillary's appeal is mainly as a regional candidate?
Will Sanders' continued dominance of Hillary outside of the Bible Belt win him enough delegates to make up for her regional wins down south? Stay tuned!
Keep fighting! Keep donating! Keep winning!

(86 posts)And none of us in the south will count until 2020 at the earliest. So yes they and I have an equal right to voice who we want to lead the Democratic party, but it's short-sighted to act like a win in Mississippi is the same as a win in Ohio (picking on purpose 2 states H. Clinton has won)

(86 posts)I would look at how the candidates are doing in swing states and 'leans blue' states.
Ohio - 56.5 Clinton, 42.7 Sanders
Colorado - 30.4 Clinton, 59.0 Sanders
Iowa - 49.9 Clinton, 49.6 Sanders
Nevada - 52.6 Clinton, 47.3 Sanders
New Hampshire - 38.0 Clinton, 60.4 Sanders
Virginia - 64.3 Clinton, 35.2 Sanders
Florida - 65.9 Clinton, 33.3 Sanders
So I would *say Clinton has a slight edge in these states overall, but I do find it a more interesting view of the race then just looking at all the states

Most predominately white religious congregations are very active in local charity work including in the black communities and in the care of the homeless. And when disaster strikes they stand in line to help the victims. In their level of kindness, I would put them against the people of any other state, bar none.

Yes, racism is still more open in the South, though that is rapidly changing, but the racism which is unspoken and hidden in other parts of the country can be more sinister and dangerous because you never know who your true enemies are.
You may regard the South as a bunch of uneducated heathens, but at least some of us can write clearly using complete sentences with proper punctuation and capitalization. Obviously, you can not.

I'm not shocked that the Jewish progressive candidate from New York via Vermont did less well in this region than the more conservative former First Lady of Arkansas. Are you?

If you are going to use "diverse" keep it states like NY, CA, IL, MI, NV, MO, etc where you don't have on race dominating and includes real diversity such as Asian, Latiinos and other minority groups.

(9,527 posts)This is offensive. If we just ignore black voters because some of them happen to live in southern states, then let's take out Sanders wins in Kansas, Utah, Idaho, Nebraska and Oklahoma on the basis of those states being largely conservative. I mean if we're going to not count a state because it was on the wrong side of the Civil War, then we have to discount Utah as it's home of the Mormon church which had to be dragged kicking and screaming into allowing black people and we couldn't possibly count Idaho home of the Aryan Nations.
Oh wait, that would be stupid.
Your argument that if we just don't count states that have happen to have heavy minority populations so you can sculpt a scenario where it looks like Sanders is winning, is something that should be unworthy of this site. It's stupid when Ann Coulter says that women shouldn't have the right to vote because it gets in the way of her candidates, it's stupid when you say that votes of minorities shouldn't count because it gets in the way of your candidate.
The fact that several Sanders supporters here seem to have no compunction about speaking down to and about minority voters is pathetic.

(19,348 posts)It's the number of states won, not the popular vote, not the delegates which are divided based upon the popular vote, but the number of states one.
So New Hampshire with 4 EV's is greater than Ohio with 20 EV's. I see. The extremes on both sides have an allergy to logic.

(5,648 posts)I wouldn't call Arizona the "Bible Belt", but even with Hillary's big win there while Bernie won two states - Utah and Idaho - Bernie didn't get the increase in delegates he needed to catch up with Hillary by the end of the primaries and caucuses. So statistically he is now further behind with three less states to go.
By the way two of the biggest delegate states remaining in New York and Pennsylvania where Bernie is 21 to 48 points behind and 25 to 30 points behind respectively. And oh, it's closer in California where he is only 9 to 11 points behind. Maybe Bernie can catch up and make California a "virtual tie" so he doesn't get any further behind in the biggest delegate state of them all.
And oh, none of those states are in the bible belt, but 2 are in New England, Bernie's home territory. Imagine that.
