A tiny bird landed on the lectern at a Bernie Sanders rally Friday in Portlandof course it was Portlandand people lost their entire shit.
Sanders beamed delightedly at the bird, which looks like a sparrow or something, while everyone behind him leapt to their feet. Somewhere, Hillary Clinton opened Twitter and muttered, You have got to be fucking kidding me.

You should be ashamed of your self, what has poor Dracula every done to you to paint him as bad as someone like Trump.

Hey at least we do not have the passion 24-7 for the next few days... in the US, or rather I can avoid it if I chose to.

"Let me ask you a question."
on the back, it said, "What is your definition of a bad Friday?"

Thankfully, Bernie gave it all the time it wanted at his podium. That is as it should be.

(2,565 posts)I was standing by the TV at home when it played on the news, I involuntarily grasped both hands over my heart, and I'll admit tears flowed... Even at my age, 50, it was one of the most, no actually the most moving political moment in my lifetime.
it felt like a miracle of sorts had happened, and I wondered if I was looking at a modern day Jesus Christ....
And this Cadillac Catholic hadn't been to church in years.....
Gees I sound so corny...I know.
But damn, that's what happened. And it some ways it was so profound to me and personal, I feel super weird even sharing how it made me feel.

(5,792 posts)That bird just kept looking at Bernie, first with one eye then the other. The Bird Landed the podium sign.........A Future To Believe In..........YES!
And Bernie was honored with a special Indian name............and then a bird visits. Wonder if our American Indian friends had a special ceremony to bless Bernie's quest to be President...sounds good.
Native American leaders named Bernie Sanders "dxʷshudičup" (pronounced dooh-s-who-dee-choop), she wrote on Facebook. This name is now bestowed upon Bernie Sanders and will be known among the Coast Salish people and beyond. The Lushootseed language meaning is "the one lighting the fires for change and unity." Thanking our Tulalip language teacher Natosha Gobin for helping us with Bernie Sanders lushootseed name.

(9,535 posts)I think God just made an endorsement, and on Good Friday to boot! According to Sunsigns: http://www.sunsigns.org/sparrow-animal-totem-symbolism-meanings/ This sounds like it was written about Bernie!
The small but proud sparrow is one of the most common birds. However, it is often overlooked, its power taken for granted. Although it is small, the sparrow animal totem is both powerful and productive. Its persistence and integrity shows us that we do not have to be big to make a difference. We also do not need to have the biggest and best things in order for our voices to be heard.
The sparrow symbolism reflects the self-worth that each of us should feel for ourselves regardless of external factors. This energy and passion for ourselves is within each of our hearts somewhere, waiting to be awakened. These little songbirds want us to sing our souls own song, just as they do. In addition to inspiring us to love ourselves, the sparrow spirit guide also symbolizes other joyful and caring qualities, such as creativity, community, friendliness, and the importance of simplicity.
Sparrows are bird totems that had long-standing symbolic value in the past. In ancient Britain, for example, sparrows symbolized the friendly spirits of the household. As time progressed on, though, the sparrow became a symbol of peasants and the lower classes. This is quite strange when you think of how the Greeks believed that this little bird was the pet of Aphrodite, the goddess of love.

(9,535 posts)The sparrow sometimes is the Lord or a holy man; in the psalm: indeed the sparrow has found itself a home. And it is another sparrow that is like a holy man: flying across the mountain like a sparrow. [Ps.83(84):4(3); Ps.10(11):2(1) Vulgate]

Then there is this. from a Native American site on totems:
The song was His Eye Is On The Sparrow which has a refrain that says, His eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches over me.
It is said that the sparrow was the only bird around during the Crucifixion of Jesus and became symbolic of the triumph after a time of long suffering. This tiny little bird who seems so insignificant today was once a symbol of household divinities in Britain and in the Middle Ages was a symbol of the peasants of the lower classes in all of Europe who were in a state of helplessness under the power of the Lords over them. These peasants loved to tell and hear stories of how a small little bird like the sparrow would triumph over enemies like a wolf, bear or eagle that symbolized the different houses of the nobility.

And this:
Sparrow is a very powerful little bird indeed, and one day will morph into the new David that slays Goliath. http://www.shelleyszajner.com/animal-symbolism-series-sparrow/
Another Native American site's take on the symbolism of sparrows:
Sparrow aids in opening the eyes to our self-worth and instills dignity and empowerment. He teaches the importance of voice and communication and the timing of exertion and retreat. It is time to sing your song in all that you do. Sparrow teaches cooperation and sharing responsibilities whether at home or work. Are you helping or should you be helping or working more in some area of your life? Sparrow aids in survival instincts by sharpening intuition to make proper choices. He will bring to awareness any old tendencies so that you can realize the newer more conducive means of being. Sparrow teaches assertion so that you may survive in spite of any circumstances with a balance of joy and empowerment. Are you ready to be like Sparrow?[Images] [Listen]

GodWeb, a site dedicated to breaking the Christian Bible into understandable pieces, has this to say about the sparrow.
or the sparrow that signifies Gods concern for the most insignificant living things.
Spirit Walk Ministry, an organization dedicated to inclusive spirituality, describes the symbolism of the sparrow.
A common visitor, a love of old buildings, the triumph of common nobility, symbol of peasants and the common people. If a Sparrow totem has entered your life, ask yourself if you know your own self-worth. The sparrow will show you that even a common little bird can triumph.
Another interesting interpretation is a blog from 2007 from Symbolic Meanings Blog by Avia Venfica.
All too often we take the sparrow for granted small though she may be, she is certainly powerful She reminds us we do not have to have the big stuff to be important, and we do not have to have the loudest voice in order to be heard.
She then notes that the symbolic meaning of the sparrow includes creativity, simplicity, joy, protection, friendliness, community, and productivity.
Sparrows derive power from their numbers.
In other words, the sparrow is a communal bird that works for the benefit of its group. Sound familiar?
