New Meme of the day: "Clinton camp: Sanders' debate request a ‘stunt’"

It is no longer about "tone" now it is about "stunts". Make sure you Hillarians stick to the script.

Clinton camp: Sanders' debate request a ‘stunt’

Hillary Clinton’s campaign on Monday brushed off a request from Sen. Bernie Sanders that she debate him in her home state of New York.

Clinton press secretary Brian Fallon told CNN that the campaign considers the request a “stunt” by a campaign “struggling” for attention and an effort to “get back on people’s radar.”

Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver sent a letter to the Clinton camp on Sunday making the request.

“Our campaign continues to believe that the people of New York, the largest April primary, deserve to have the debate held in their state, and that it should be held prior to the New York primary,” Weaver wrote.

Clinton strategist Joel Benenson told reporters Monday that that would be unlikely at this point.

“We’re still in the month of March, we’ve got real estate to go before New York,” he said.

Wisconsin is scheduled to hold a Democratic primary April 5, and Wyoming will have caucuses April 9. New Yorkers will have their primary April 19.

The campaigns had agreed to at least one debate each in March, April and May. March debates were held in Flint, Mich., and Miami. The May debate is slated for California, according to Weaver’s letter.

“Can you please explain why New York should not host the April debate?” he wrote. “Is the Secretary concerned about debating before the people who twice elected her to the U.S. Senate?”

Benenson suggested that the Clinton campaign also has been concerned with the tone of Sanders’ campaign and that negativity – which he had foresworn earlier in the race – could lessen the chances she will debate.

Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have agreed to add four more debates, including one this Thursday in New Hampshire just days before that state's primary.

The decision expands the total number of Democratic debates from six to ten, and suggests both campaigns are prepared for a drawn-out primary battle that will extend at least until May.

The first additional debate will take place in New Hampshire on Thursday. The campaigns have also agreed to a March debate in Flint, Michigan, and two more debates in April and May. The May debate is likely to take place in California.

Sounds like their campaign is desperate to flip flop on the agreement

she knows that she has difficulty in a debate against a tough opponent like Bernie.

Her first election as New York Senator was in a Democratic state and on the coattails of her outgoing President-husband. Her re-election campaign was against token opposition. So her opposition in those races could not really be described as "competitive". This is really the first time she has had to face a seasoned, adept challenger. And then, Bernie is originally from New York, so Hillary doesn't necessarily have a "home field advantage".

I would love a nice camel back truss.

Oh, do I realy believe that Bernie would debate if he were ahead? Hell yeah I do. Not only because he's done it in the past, in fact he negotiated having one in a state he was ahead in, but also because Bernie is about the free expression of the ideas and letting the best ones win.

It's not about Bernie winning, it's about the ideas he champions winning. That's why he is so beloved.

Bernie Sanders challenges Hillary Clinton to debate in Brooklyn
Updated: Sunday, January 31, 2016, 12:09 PM

Bernie Sanders wants Hillary Clinton to prove her Brooklyn values — with a debate.

The Sanders campaign abruptly challenged Clinton to debate in the borough, where Sanders grew up and where Clinton has her campaign headquarters.

The request came as the neck-and-neck Democratic presidential contenders are figuring out where to hold their upcoming debates.

(snip)

The Sanders campaign shot back that Flint is fine — so long as Clinton agrees to squaring off in Brooklyn.

Sanders is “pleased to do” the Michigan debate, his campaign said in a statement, “provided the Clinton campaign will agree to Brooklyn, New York, on April 14.”

Having just won Washington, Alaska and Hawaii by landslides, Bernie is on the peoples "radar" but the citizens of the largest state to vote in the east certainly deserve a debate.

Thanks for the thread, GeorgiaPeanuts.
