2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumFree press for Hillary this afternoon.
A private, invitation only event at University of Wisconsin....where blocks of the campus are cordoned off to keep students out.
And televised on MSNBC and CNN. Free.
Already taking a whack at Bernie, in the first moment.

(1,235 posts)... it's not at a private event for elites while being covered by the same media that donates to her campaign.

Aerows
(39,961 posts)as frightening that situation might be.
As a realist, I think Hillary has NY covered, but until that primary concludes, and CA votes, it's pretty much speculation at this point.
There are more states in play, so it will be fascinating to see how this all shakes out.
I'm voting D. I have my preferred candidate, and you have yours.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)And that all this inaction on the SC gets people to look hard at down ticket races for once! I think Hillary will take NY/NJ/PA and Sanders Wisconsin. The rest, IDK. I do not have a candidate. We are second to last, and it will likely be sewn up before I get to vote. It would be a total shock if my state "matters" for the primary. But it would be fun if it did- and I would have to think about who to vote in the primary then! Unlikely, but you never know!
Aerows
(39,961 posts)a free-for-all on both sides of the aisle.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)and am wondering if they are saving more salacious evidence for later in the season. The Enquirer has a really good legal department, they usually are right about this stuff. I can see those idiots trying to take it away from Trump, and things getting really ugly this summer. I hope, I hope I hope. I feel like I only care about the SC this year. Don't love either candidate, so I want great judges.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)but in Ted Cruz's case, I'll make an exception.
I hope his campaign gets destroyed.
That guy is a menace.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)wealthy and connected and have good lives without fucking us all up. I think that's a chill wish, not an ill wish. Win- win.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)Thank you for making me smile - "Chill wish"!
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)right? Do you have open or closed primary or caucus? I would never want to caucus, LOL. We have some real assholes around here. The most corrupt little old ladies you have ever seen. They used to hide my registration! Did not want us younger people voting in the locals, they have quite the gravy train to protect.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)I voted, and it's out of my hands until the GE.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)about your tomatoes getting too much humidity. I have this vague image of you gardening in overalls, even though I should know better by now, the image has stuck. I wanna say, have some bourbon and stop screwing around with that varmint, Aerows. Funny the ideas that get stuck in your head, ain't it? Jeeze I am silly because I had a possum in my yard a few years ago. A yankee possum!
Aerows
(39,961 posts)And I used to wear overalls in the club with nothing but a half shirt and boy boxers, but alas, that was back in their heyday. Rockin' my Docs - not a look everyone can pull off, but it was New Orleans.
Regardless, I must also admit that I love nature almost as much as I love technology

(47,209 posts)The Menace because of Dennis. HA. Gosh I am so tired I got you confused with another sweetheart of a DUer who Befriended me recently. I am so proud I guessed your duds. It is a talent, even if it is a small one.
I am passing out now- you have a good week, and I will try and do the same!

(40,416 posts)Why doesn't Hillary Clinton talk to real people?
Because they cannot afford the money to hear her in person.

(40,416 posts)Meanwhile, in Madison, WI, Bernie let the students in and Hillary roped them off, just like in your pic.
Here's Bernie in Madison.
http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/YFi1L5Z6KTnXwNTyv07rCw--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3NfbGVnbztmaT1maWxsO2g9Mzc3O2lsPXBsYW5lO3B4b2ZmPTUwO3B5b2ZmPTA7cT03NTt3PTY3MA--/
Of course, there is no pics of Hillary in Madison because it was "a private affair". Woooo! And anyway, the dozens who could afford to attend wouldn't impress much and the PAY TO PLAY participants might not want their pics associating them with Secy Clinton made public. Therefore, no press, just like her Goldman Sachs speeches. Hillary has a real problem here.
Then, there was Bernie in Seattle:
How many there had to pay to play? None of them. And the press was welcome.
Vive la difference!

(13,417 posts)A private event? So what? Invitation only? So what, especially if it is televised? Did any of the complainers investigate the requirements for obtaining an invitation, like maybe visiting her website or talking to local campaign organizers? It's 4 PM in WI right now and most classes are over for the day - a day where there was a shooting at the Capitol so security was likely ramped up. She takes a shot at Bernie - that's what politicians do.
These grumblings seem trivial or personal to me.
DebDoo
(319 posts)Computer labs, the library, tutoring centers, and office hours? Class time is only a very tiny portion of a student's commitment to schooling.
LonePirate
(13,417 posts)As I said, people like to complain, especially on the Internet.
DebDoo
(319 posts)And it's not just a poke in the eye to Bernie's supporters, it's a poke in the eye to everyone who lost needed access to the campus. And for no reason - she could have held a closed event anywhere- she didn't need to block off a college campus.
LonePirate
(13,417 posts)She didn't close anything. Either campus security or local police or the Secret Service closed areas as I doubt she was aware of any of those details. Those same people would have done the same thing for any of the other four candidates - even Bernie.
People are simply complaining because they can.
DebDoo
(319 posts)She's not new to this - she knows exactly how the secret service works. She's well aware of the fact that there's a huge detail shutting everything down around her. And she doesn't care. She closed down a college campus for no reason other than she wanted to. Again, she chose to have a closed event on a college campus, closing it down, for no reason.
LonePirate
(13,417 posts)Your offense rings hollow to me.
DebDoo
(319 posts)Because Bernie didn't hold a private, closed event on a college campus.
To answer your question, I personally was not inconvenienced by Hillary's actions but that doesn't prevent me from recognizing others were.
LonePirate
(13,417 posts)they were inconvenienced, if they even were. Basically, you're just complaining to be complaining without having anything to back up your position. Got it!

(6,551 posts)The last one in Seattle on Friday night right after Maddow's show, followed by plenty of pro Bernie commentary.
That's prime time coverage, not the morning and afternoon coverage that Clinton gets.

(6,551 posts)The most recent rally was last Friday night, March 25, because I watched it. First, Rachel Maddow with her show and a running MSNBC stream 'Awaiting Sanders Rally' across the bottom of the screen. After her show, they went immediately to live coverage at the Seattle outdoor stadium with coverage of long lines of people waiting to the get in, and then eventually the rally (about 15,000 were there) and afterwards, pro Bernie coverage.
