(24,411 posts)I've worked in public relations/media relations/marketing for many years. I've also worked as a consultant.
Revolution Messaging specializes in creating digital advertising and digital campaigns for Progressive caucuses. Their area of expertise is in the political and non-profit world.
A group of high-level Obama campaign workers started the company.
There isn't a successful company or political campaign out there--that doesn't use firms like this to develop big-picture campaigns. You think Bernie is sitting around in a basement somewhere, developing marketing plans?
Nowhere does it say that this is about paid trolls. Because this firm is not about paid trolls. It's about creating online campaigns.
Obama certainly did this. The people who work here developed campaigns like this for Obama. Now, Bernie has hired them.
Every modern PR and marketing plan has an online-digital component to it. It's not scary. It's what everyone does. If Bernie or Hillary wants the public to know about their healthcare plan, they'll issue standard press releases over the wires--but they'll also disseminate the information online, via Twitter, Facebook, etc. Ohhhh...scary!! Not.
Hillary also uses PR and marketing firms. She does the same thing.
What I see here is a lot of faux outrage over nothing.

(24,411 posts)Name one political campaign that doesn't have a digital-online strategy or plan.
What modern-day political campaign wouldn't hire a firm like this? Hillary also hires PR firms. No doubt she has a company managing her online content and developing clever online advertising and campaigns to help her get disseminate key messages.
This firm was founded by digital-media strategists who worked on the Obama campaign. Ohhhh...evil!
The problem is--that you know squat about PR and marketing, or PR and marketing firms. You're suggesting that this is about paid trolls, when it is not. Nowhere is that said.
In fact, the ad that has been posted is pretty standard in the PR/marketing industry. Candidates and corporations (including Hillary Clinton...gasp!) hire firms that help them develop online campaigns.
It's not the woo that you people are suggesting.
Another ridiculous talking point delivered fresh and hot by Hillary fans.

Hillary hires black-owned PR Advertising Firm
http://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/clinton-campaign-hires-black-owned-advertising-firm-n463236
Here's an article about Hillary hiring a strategist. The primary task was to make Hillary more "likable." You don't think that PR plan had any online components to it? Okaaaaay.

It's standard operating procedure.

(11,014 posts)Sometimes they alert on each and every post I make and the Bernie juries hide them even though they don't violate TOS.
This is why Skinner suspended the 5 and out policy.
It also sucks that some newbie signs on and in a few days has a 40% chance of serving on juries. We have had a lot of "newbies" that exclusively support Bernie Sanders.
I suppose the $16 million spent on "Revolution Messaging" resulted in many of my hides.
Warren DeMontague

CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)The firm develops online campaign strategies and marketing plans.
There is no indication that they troll people online or show up at Hillary's rallies. You are absurd. It's all made up.
Hillary hires strategists who help her with online content on Twitter, Facebook and other online outlets.
So does Bernie. So does every political campaign. It's not voodoo.
I have many years of experience in PR/media relations. I also do consulting. If I pitched a PR plan that didn't have an online component to it, I would be fired. To suggest that online marketing/PR/advertising is "paid trolls" and "hecklers" means that you don't understand the industry (at best) or you are intentionally misleading people.

"Sanders hired D.C.-based Revolution Messaging to run online fundraising and manage the campaigns digital advertising, branding, video creation, website development, texts to supporters and online store. The boutique 60-employee firm, led by veterans of President Obamas 2008 campaign, would seem the perfect fit for Sanders. They dont work for Republicans, evil corporations that do harm or dictators, and there are a lot of democratic socialists on staff, Goodstein said."

(5,275 posts)among other things, it is a miracle of heightened perception that anyone, ANYONE, can discern, let alone PROVE, who is on the other side of any goddam keyboard on the internet...
it's fucking laughable to get too exercised about anything you read, especially on contentious websites like DU...
for all anyone knows, most of the trolls on the 'net are posters putting up posts against the actual candidate of their choice...
let me know when either BS or HRC to any other person(s) who are subjects of these type of websites can exert ANY CONTROL over anything posted...
hell, none of them can even control the people who actually work for them...

An internet marketing company hiring interns?
Do you think that marketing only happens on Newspapers, Radio, TV, landline phones, and cave paintings?
Do you call Hillary supports who man her phone banks "bots"?

(3,937 posts)16 negative articles in 16 hours but they couldn't make a case to back up the BernieBros smears.
and then there is this...

1) Sexism. This was the biggest one we were supposed to push. We had to smear Bernie as misogynistic and out-of-touch with modern sensibilities. He was to be characterized as an old white male relic that believed women enjoyed being gang raped. Anyone who tried to object to this characterization would be repeatedly slammed as sexist until they went away or people lost interest.
2) Racism. We were instructed to hammer home how Bernie supporters were all privileged white students that had no idea how the world worked. We had to tout Hillarys great record with the blacks (yes, thats the actual way it was phrased), and generally use racial identity politics to attack Sanders and bolster Hillary as the only unifying figure.
3) Electability. All of those posts about how Sanders can never win and Hillary is inevitable? Some of those were us, done deliberately in an attempt to demoralize Bernie supporters and convince them to stop campaigning for him. The problem is that this was an outright fabrication and not an accurate assessment of the current political situation. But the truth didnt matter we were trying to create a new truth, not to spread the existing truth.
4) Dirty tactics. This is where things got really bad. We were instructed to create narratives of Clinton supporters as being victimized by Sanders supporters, even if they were entirely fabricated. There were different instructions about how to do it, but something like this (http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/10/31/1443064/-Dis-heartened-Hillary-Supporter) is a perfect example. These kind of posts are manufactured to divide and demoralize Sanders supporters, and are entirely artificial in nature. (The same thing happened in 2008, but it wasnt as noticeable before social media and public attention focused on popular forums like Reddit).

(11,243 posts)it becomes obvious that much of the "bro-ness" emanates directly from the campaign. They try to give the candidate plausible deniability, but it was ALL coming from the Mothership. And it IS interesting that FB was suddenly FULL of pro-Bernie posters with completely private accounts.
