I would have no problems contacting either camp, my daughter meets with both sides and has met both candidates.
As a poli-sci continuing ed student, in my 50's, you need to reach out to the parties to effectively research them.
Whatever they tell you could easily lead you to verify or invalidate their information.
And, if it's wrong, slam them for it.
But apprehensiveness, fear, mistrust, or whatever is not a good reason not to reach out.

Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Sorry, wilt got two antisemitic posts hidden. That's the truth. It's understandable why some people would like to conceal the issue of antisemitism among Hillary's fans at DU, but I won't be a party to protecting bigoted behavior.

You do know that "volunteering in a soup kitchen" is just ONE EXAMPLE of how people involve themselves in helping others, right? Usually because it is low effort/not a full time job.
He made helping others his FULL TIME job, and did it successfully.

(12,408 posts)Why are you asking for proof of something he has never claimed to have done? (If you think he has claimed it, post the quote, and let's see exactly what it is he was talking about.)
If you're looking for proof of his concern about poverty and issues affecting the poor, and things he has done to try to address those things, there is obviously tons of that.
If your big concern is poverty, and you think there is some other candidate who has done more, then by all means, vote for that candidate.

(14,249 posts)The Senate and House participate in some excellent tutoring programs, such as Everybody Wins! and Horton's Kids, where Senators and House Members read with DC's inner-city children once a week. It's real and not for show.
Senator Ted Kennedy used to go to a school once a week to read with his reading buddy, Jasmine. Whenever he couldn't get away from the Capitol because of a vote or hearing, Jasmine went to his office in the Capitol and he read with her there.
Even after Jasmine outgrew the program, Senator Kennedy continue to tutor and mentor her. Jasmine went on to college and graduated from VCU in 2012.
Senator Sanders never participated in any of the Senate or House tutoring programs.

There are many children who graduate from Burlington High who were born in places like Brundi, Somalia, Vietnam, Bosnia and other countries. By the way, this started in the late 80s - the time when Bernie was mayor.
Obviously Burlington is not anywhere near the size of Chicago or NYC. However, the question was not what he did for African Americans , but when did he do anything for people in need.
1) There ARE white people who are in desperate need in parts of this country.
2) He was mayor of Burlington -- and it was his job to make Burlington better.

I guess what he wants is a photo of Sanders working in a soup kitchen.
The strange thing is, I don't remember Sanders ever claiming he worked in a soup kitchen. Though considering everything else we know about him, I would not be surprised if he had. He wouldn't necessarily make it a campaign point. It's not like he needs to pad his resume, or needs to establish more street cred regarding his concern for the poor...

The pictures are largely from private collections, Bernie's not a publicity hound and we have a lot of first hand narratives from people who stood and worked by his side.

(1,163 posts)I've had work published in national and international publications, I keep hardcopies.
But if I look for any of the articles online, I usually find nothing and only find references to those magazines as an index or sometimes as part of a used magazine collection.
But mostly nothing comes up in a Google search.
A Google search will mostly get you news from the last 20 years or fewer.
Have you considered contacting his senate offices or home town library?

Check them out and ask what online collections might be most useful for research.
You might need to buy a subscription, unless you are currently enrolled in college or university.
If you really want to find these things it will take some work.
Unlike the Clintons, Sanders just isn't the type to write memoirs or books about himself.
There's too much work to do!
wilt the stilt
(4,528 posts)and understand search technology it is damn good, i actually sold search technology and Google's algorithm works very well. You have to understand how their search terms work. I cold call for a living and I find all my targets off of some variation of google. the best stuff is about 4 pages down. people pay to be on top but the truly great stuff is much farther down. here is how the algorithm works. paid on top, most viewed after and ranked by viewership. Some of the best stuff is not always viewed.

(2,064 posts)here's one thing Bernie did to help the poor...
HE PAID HIS FUCKING TAXES.
Unlike some who concocted an elaborate tax-evading slush fund to the tune of a few hundred million dollars. Spin all you want, the bottom line is the primary charity served by the CGI is the Clinton family and their closest political allies. All done tax-free, because why pay taxes and help out other Americans, some of whom probably aren't even going to vote for you?
If there were any justice in this world, the whole lot of them would go spend the remainder of their privileged lives rubbing shoulders with the victims of their mass incarceration project. Yes, THEIR mass incarceration project. I'll be goddamed if I'm about to sit here and be lectured by the supporters of a candidate who is a wholly owned subsidiary of Goldman Sachs, and whose husband oversaw the greatest expansion of needless incarceration in American history.
Tell her to pay her taxes and set free the millions her husband enslaved in the penal system.
Then you can make bullshit strawman arguments about Bernie's imaginary lack of compassion for the very people your hero has screwed over for nearly 40 years (and yes, I'll count the victims of the Arkansas death penalty in my scorecard of actual crimes against the poor).
Go sell crazy someplace else...
