Huge problems plagued the Arizona primary earlier this week, with allegations of election fraud resounding across the Internet. People who said they were previously registered Democrat suddenly found their registrations inactive and couldnt vote in the primary. Now people are discovering the same thing in New York.
Heres what you need to know.
Many New York Voters Have Reported Problems With Their Voter Registration
You can go here to see if your registration is active and if you are listed as affiliated with the right party.
If you are registered to vote in New York, these deadlines may still be applicable to you:

April 18 Last day to apply in-person for an absentee ballot
April 18 Last day to postmark absentee ballot. It must be received by the local board of elections no later than April 26.

The more you look, the more stories are reported. This person said they had registered as a Democrat in New York in 2010 to vote in the primaries. Hes voted in every election since. Two weeks ago he checked his voter status and everything was fine. He wrote: Fast forward to last night when I received three phone bank calls asking if Ive registered, it made me check my eligibility. Guess what? My information was not there. He went to the county elections office to register again and was told that no one had any idea what had happened.

(16,184 posts)Taking away someone's ability to vote is a theft of the most personal kind, an assault on their personhood.
No matter WHO you are voting for!!! From negative votes in 2000, to black box cheating and caging in 2004, to a disempowered VRA leading to 5 hour lines in Arizona, it's unacceptable and an affront to EVERYONE who ever fought for American freedom and American rights..

(8,168 posts)This was in one polling station and during the few minutes I was there. In their case it was because they didn't understand that if they chose a Republican ballot in the year Obama ran unopposed (2012), they were automatically registered to the Republican party and needed to re-register as independent to be able to choose either party next time (semi-open primary.) Between misunderstandings and clerical errors, people really need to check which party they are affiliated with far in advance of an election. The problem is most of us forget and don't bother until it is too late, which REALLY sucks. I hope people are diligent and check if they aren't sure or haven't voted in a while.
