The Cult of Bernie: How Blind Adoration Has Masked One of America's Most Deceitful Presidential Campaigns
(snip)
This election season, many people have wanted to trust Bernie Sanders. They have wanted to trust him because he seems genuine. Like a happy grandfather who would sit in a rocking chair and would bounce a grandchild on his knee... Yet the true Bernie Sanders is proving himself to be one of the most deceitful and dishonest presidential candidates we've ever had.
And the media is to blame. They needed a horse race and to do that they chose not to vet Bernie Sanders to keep up his likeable image. They embraced him when he appeared on Saturday Night Live. They covered his record-breaking rallies, failing to mention that these rallies took place in college towns with thousands of impressionable first-time voters. They brushed off any missteps by the campaign with an aw-shucks mentality. They created narratives that favored the campaign and adjusted the expectations for each primary or caucus accordingly. They hyped up his wins and downplayed his losses. They gave him softball interview questions on the Sunday morning shows. They did all this while ignoring the fact that Hillary Clinton has never trailed in the Democratic primary and that she has built up a lead that has been greater than Barack Obama's ever was during the 2008 primary. The media did all this in an effort to protect Bernie Sanders and to present the illusion that he was a viable candidate for president.
But the truth hurts. Bernie Sanders' campaign has been malicious. Despite promising to run a clean campaign, it has been one of the dirtiest and most deceitful campaigns our country has ever seen. The evidence has been right there all along, but our media has been complacent in pretending that it has not been happening. Just look at where the Sanders campaign is now. Sanders constantly attacks Clinton from Wall Street to big banks to her Goldman Sachs transcripts to her campaign contributions. Not a day goes by where Sanders isn't doing the bidding for Karl Rove. In fact, it's gotten to be such a part of the culture of his campaign that Sanders is now attacking Clinton based on things he thinks might be true. We saw this with his recent claim that Hillary Clinton was "not qualified" to be president, which was based on his errant interpretation of a Washington Post article for which he simply skimmed the headline and nothing more. By this point, practically nothing is off limits.
(snip)
For some reason, Bernie Sanders feels entitled to be the presidential nominee for the Democratic Party and feels that everyone should support him. Maybe it's because he's a White male from a rural state. Maybe it's because he feels people should choose him over a woman. If for whatever reason people choose not to support Sanders, they then become part of what Sanders has termed the dreaded "establishment" of Washington, D.C. This has led to Sanders vilifying any group or individual who doesn't endorse him and his zealous supporters have taken it upon themselves to then go and attack those individuals or groups. We've seen online hoards of Bernie Sanders supporters attack anyone from civil rights icons John Lewis and Dolores Huerta to "establishment" organizations such as Planned Parenthood and The Human Rights Campaign to even creating "hit lists" for superdelegates and typical run-of-the-mill Twitter users who just happen to support Hillary Clinton.

(6,436 posts)During Sunday nights Democratic debate, the Republican National Committee made the unusual move of sending no fewer than four real-time e-mails to reporters defending the self-described democratic socialist from attacks by Hillary Clinton or echoing his message against her. Based on their content, one could be forgiven for thinking the RNC communiques came from the Sanders campaign.
One RNC e-mail, which was titled Clintons Misleading Health Care Attack, defended the Vermont senator from what it described as the Clinton campaigns inaccurate remarks on Sanders single-payer plan, and quoted news articles that featured rebuttals of her arguments. A second message countered Clintons attacks on Sanders over gun control by pointing out her gun-friendly statements in the past. Two other e-mails sought to bolster Sanders case that Clinton is too close to Wall Street and the drug industry.
~~
~~
Meanwhile, American Crossroads, a group co-founded by Karl Rove, is airing an ad in Iowa bolstering a core tenet of Sanderss case against Clinton: that she has received large sums of campaign contributions from Wall Street, and therefore can't be trusted to crack down on big banks. Hillary rewarded Wall Street with a $700 billion bailout, then Wall Street made her a multi-millionaire, a narrator in the ad says. Does Iowa really want Wall Street in the White House?
~~
~~
In Iowa, American Crossroads is helping Bernie Sanders by depicting Hillary Clinton as a Wall Street insider, Jack Pitney, a political science professor at Claremont McKenna College, wrote on his blog.

When Republican attack someone it's a sure sign they are doing good work fighting the Grifters, Obstructors and Prostitutes in their campaign to sabotage democracy in America. (For the record, they succeeded in 2000 with the Appointment of Cheney's puppet as "president". With Barack Obama's election to the presidency in 2008 we restored out democracy to begin America's Second Democratic Era.)

See - I'm a bit different. I've voted for Democrats for 28 years. I told my family about this time last year that if Clinton was the nominee, I'd be leaving the party. I said this BEFORE Bernie threw his hat in the ring. I was looking at O'Malley at this time last year. I just knew I couldn't stomach Clinton. To me, she's no different than an old-school Republican.

(47,486 posts)This blog is devoted to examining issues from a liberal perspective, on factual bases and on fair analysis. This site is also deeply zealous about liberal Democratic activism. At The People's View, we are committed to giving readers as much additional resources (mostly via links) as possible to educate as well as activate. The People's View is also a public policy blog for reasoned debate and discussion.

But we are talking about governing. About the chief executive who has to work with plans that can be implemented - approved by congress? - and can keep this country with all 300 million plus residents on an even keel.
Yes, many say that they agree with him raising important issues. But he has yet to show how he plan to implement them.
And, yes, thinking that he can get away with not showing his income tax is part of the suspicion. Claiming itemized deductions of $53 K with no explanation, on an income of $209,000 which is way beyond the normal range for this income just adds to the notion that he has no idea what he is doing and what he is talking about.
The good old "talk is cheap."

(2,262 posts)But it's one person's distorted view representing one(hopefully) vote. So I'll discount it like the other attacks from Hillary's lapdogs. Either the author just moved to the USA or was on certain pharmaceuticals most of the time, but this doesn't even inch close to the 2008 campaign between Hillary and the Fairy Tale who wore gear similar to certain northern African countries, as was implied by 2008 Clinton lapdogs.

(10,622 posts)Sen. Hillary Clinton has been involved with the Family since 1993 when, as first lady, she joined a White House prayer circle for political wives. Clinton has also sought spiritual counseling from the current head of the Family, Doug Coe. Sharlet argues that Clinton's longtime association with the Family has helped her forge working relationships with powerful religious conservatives such as Family member and anti-abortion crusader Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas.
The Family nurtures the next generation of prayer warriors in suburban dormitories. Sharlet spent nearly a month living at Ivanwald, a dormitory in Virginia where sons of the Family are sent to immerse themselves in Jesus and clean the toilets of congressmen and senators.
The Family also runs a house on C Street in Washington, D.C. The C Street Center has housed a number of federal legislators, including Sen. John Ensign of Nevada. Residents allege that the center is just a cheap place to live, but as an Ivanwald brother, Sharlet saw firsthand that the center is a religious community. As far as the IRS is concerned, the C Street Center is a church.
Members will tell you that the Family is just a group of friends. As Sharlet discovered, 600 boxes of documents at the Billy Graham Center Archives tell a different story.
AlterNet writer Lindsay Beyerstein recently sat down with Jeff Sharlet at a Brooklyn coffee shop to discuss the Family.
Lindsay Beyerstein What is the Family?
Jeff Sharlet: It's an international network of evangelical activists in government, military and business. The Family is dedicated to this idea that Christianity has gotten it all wrong for two thousand years by focusing on the poor, the suffering and the weak.
The Family says that instead, what Christians should do is minister to the up-and-out -- as opposed to the down-and-out -- to those that are already powerful. Because if they can win those people for Christ, they win the whole deal. That's what this network is dedicated to. It includes nonprofit organizations, it includes think tanks, it includes various ministries.
Lindsay Beyerstein: Where did they get the idea that they should be ministering to the up-and-out? There doesn't seem to be a lot basis in Christianity for that view.
Jeff Sharlet: Two places. The founder of the Family, Abraham Vereide, would describe it as his "new revelation" that came to him in the middle of the night, very literally: in a vision from God in 1935 in response to the Great Depression and, more particularly, to a series of very successful labor strikes that he saw as challenging God's sovereignty. So, God comes and gives him this new revelation to say, "This is what I really meant"...

(5,946 posts)heh there is actually a site to help you figure it out!
Heavy Caveat: Were loathed to consider thepeoplesview.net (TPV) real, because its mostly opinion, but it is a site that makes their opinions based on data theyve culled. But it makes no attempt to hide its liberal slant.
Apparently it has been around since 2008
The question-marks:
Does TPV ignore other sources to help slant their opinions?
And even this tidbit, deeply zealous about liberal activism, creates not so little dissent among fellow Leftists. In 2011, TPV posted the article A Left Wing Hierarchy, which seemed to try to pigeonhole Obama-objectors on the Left into neat categories, complete with training on how to handle arguments with them. Some left-leaning bloggers took exception to it.
Our initial gut-reaction is to consider suspect everything that you read at TPV. Information there is likely okay to repost and share, but be ready to suffer through the comments youll likely get, mostly rebuking whatever claim your shared article posits.

Secondly yes people can amass in large numbers and do scary things in the name of their leader or whatever but that is still not the definition of cult. It's more properly known as nationalism. But, guess who is promoting my party right or wrong memes. Guess who will try to keep the status quo with an iron fist, I will clue you it isn't Bernie.
And lastly the OP handle is very funny. In light of the fact that this OP isn't about questioning anything. People who are questioning bring facts to the table not moronic opinion pieces.
