2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA more fair way to distribute the "super-delegates".
It would not be fair if Bernie won the majority of pledged delegates but loses the nomination because of super-delegates voting for Hillary by huge majority.
A more fair way would be for the "super-delegates" to with-hold their votes until all the pledged delegates have voted.
That way, if they wanted to vote for the candidate that lost the majority in their states, they would be publicized and held accountable. They could still vote for whom they wanted but there might be a political price to pay if they vote against the will of the majority in their state.
The manner in which it is presently set up is not fair and favors the candidate of the establishment. There should be a better way to handle this.

(13,424 posts)There has never been an instance where the supers flocked to a candidate who had not acquired a majority of pledged delegates. There will never be an instance of where this happens. It will not happen this year regardless if Bernie or Hillary wins a majority of pledged delegates.

(2,262 posts)down as many state parties as possible with the promise of money flowing into the state's that support her via super Ds. That is bribery and slime works at its highest level. And this is what we can expect with another Clinton presidency. These super delegates are locked in to Hill. If they
switch, their state party will lose their money and the switcher's political careers will die.
Gotta love corruption.

and bernie and all of us need to lobby hard to end the money flow to the state dem parties based on super votes. this kind of corruption and vote buying is why clinton can sound like such an arrogant queen because she feels she is untouchable.
we need ro disabuse her of that outdated mentality by stripping the supers of the power and ideally, their very jobs.

(491 posts)I wouldn't have a problem with them if they were bound to the will of the state. That seems pretty reasonable. Also gives the parties involved an incentive to win the state.

Stop worrying about situations that will not occur. Nobody is going to override a pledged delegate majority in either direction.
Hell, so far only one campaign has even suggested they should, and that was Sanders' people.
