Such a positive, hopeful campaign that's drawing all kinds of wonderful people into the party.
Interesting word choice when talking about Secretary Clinton.
Thank goodness for closed primaries. Keep the enemies outside the gates.

(53,787 posts)Look back thru history and it'll become clear.
After Hoover, the Great Depression; After Truman, even Ike had a recession; after JFK/LBJ, Nixon's recession; after Carter there came Reagan's union-busting downturn and that 80s huge market drop; Daddy Bush had his too which prompted the Clinton campaign's, "it's the economy, stupid" slogan; and after Clinton's 90s boom we all fairly recently experience Cheney/Bush's Great Recession. Obama has bought us back despite all the repug obstructionism (think what it would be like if they hadn't put up roadblocks at every turn)
Yep, it's no doubt tht repugs cause the economic collapses and dems fix them. It's not a secret except for those that don't look at history.

Bill USA
(6,436 posts)attributing the slow growth of 2016 to China's slow-down and European countries austerity economic policies. U.S. has done much better than the European countries who went with austerity. Of course, the GOP prevented Obama from passing any more than a stimulus that was too small to do a good job of stimulating a faster recovery(Chistina Romer wanted a much bigger stimulus). But fortunately, the Fed, insulated from GOP sabotage, provided a modest stimulus by keeping lending rates very low.
Barack Obama has been a great president for job creation
As for Barack Obama, if we measure this from when he was inaugurated, then after seven years in office we has seen the creation of 9.2 million jobs. But when Obama took office, the economy was hemorrhaging hundreds of thousands of jobs a month 700,000 were lost in his first month as president, which he can hardly be blamed for. And in general it may not be fair to give credit or blame to a president for what happens at the beginning of his first term.
So heres what the data look like if we insert a one-year lag, attributing the first year of every president to the one who came before him. For instance, for Bill Clinton that means measuring from the start of 1994, one year into his presidency, and ending at the start of 2002, one year into George W. Bushs presidency:
https://img.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=&w=1484
Here, Carter looks a little worse and Reagan looks a little better, but the big change is that Obama looks much better (though in his case were just taking out one year but not adding anything in) and George W. Bush looks much worse; in fact, Bush actually saw net job losses of over a million.
Which brings us to the question of the Great Recession and which president should be assigned the blame. You could argue this question in many ways maybe Bush helped it happen, or maybe Obama didnt help it end quickly enough. But lets be generous, particularly to Bush, and say that he had nothing to do with the Great Recession. So to compare these two presidents well stop measuring Bush at the moment job losses kicked in (December 2007) and start measuring Obama once the recession hit its low point (February 2010). Here are the job totals doing it that way:
https://img.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=&w=1484
So being generous to both presidents, Bush created 5.7 million jobs before things went south, and Obama created created 13.6 million jobs after things bottomed out.

I am very sorry for using the term "whore" to refer to some in congress who are beholden to corporations and not us. It was insensitive.
And from everything he said it seems he is referring to congress being corporate "whores". As for word selection it is crass, poorly chosen, and an easy target. With out a doubt you can tell what he meant, years ago whore was used mostly for prostitute and to talk down to women, but it has changed is usage, thus the introduction of "man whores"...but now the need for man has fallen away and it is more unisex. You can see by the current defintions, both the second and the third one are for men or people.
whore
noun ˈhȯr, ˈhu̇r
Definition
1
: a woman who engages in sexual acts for money : prostitute; also : a promiscuous or immoral woman
2
: a male who engages in sexual acts for money
3
: a venal or unscrupulous person
To me the speaker pulled a Dean by not toning down his words to appropriate levels. I do not fell this is sexist, but I do think he was a fool to use the term as much as he may hate the fact that our representatives sell themselves for money.

(885 posts)"corporate Democratic whores" <- notice the 's' on the end. That makes it plural. Hillary is a single individual (no matter how many times her stances change).
Where is Hillary getting kicked out of? She's currently a private citizen. And obviously "Bernie-crats" means just Bernie, because we are replacing Hillary as president by lots of people.
Have you even tried applying any logic to your quotes? A 5th grade English student could explain in detail why these statements were not directed at Hillary.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)Yeah, you run with that. Bro forgot that misogyny directed at Hillary Clinton is supposed to be expressed in code like scolding her for her "ambition" or calling her "unqualified."
RichVRichV
(885 posts)She is still just one person and that statement was pluralized. In fact, that sentence specified exactly who the slur was directed at: Democrats elected "who are beholden to Big Pharma and the private insurance industry instead of us".
That sentence can include, but is not limited to or directly about Hillary Clinton. It is much more likely directed at most of congress specifically, as that is a group (pluralized) who has previously blocked single payer and even a public option.
geek tragedy

(885 posts)that kinds of happens when you're in a primary and trying to change the outlook of the party you care about. We could all sit around throwing insults at the Republicans all day but that doesn't fix what is wrong on our side of the fence. Nor does it differentiate one Democratic candidate from another Democratic candidate. You know that little thing where people choose who our nominee will be (hint, we're still in the primary).
And again, Hillary is not a plural. And Bernie isn't either (Bernie-crats). You keep redirecting away from that because you have no answer to it (at least none that supports your agenda).
