2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDear Hillary Clinton Supporters--
in your heart of hearts, do you really love everything she stands for, more than what Bernie Sanders stands for?
Or are you supporting her out of political calculation, i.e. that she is "more electable"?
I'm not judging either way, I'm just curious.

(590 posts)Bernie just joined within the past year to run. She was connections to democratic members of the house/senate she can use to build on to get bills passed. I will gladly vote for either in the GE, but for now I am supporting Hillary

(31,518 posts)been aware of Hillary's accomplishments since the 80's. She has always been a champion of human rights, especially those of women and children. Her experience as SOS has allowed her to develop relationships with world leaders that will be invaluable when she is elected.

(8,003 posts)But I like her ideas much better than Sanders' and I have liked and admired her work since Bill ran for president the first time. I have followed the things she's done for a very long time. Yes, I do know where she stands on issues and where Sanders stands on issues. I like her approach better.
This is an honest response to what I believe is an honest question and I have no desire to get in a pissing contest with Sanders supporters over it.

(47,803 posts)I don't mean micro proposals of the kind that all candidates offer.
I mean ideas to move America in a better direction on a fundamental level.

(8,003 posts)While I have some general "overall best for the country" issues I also have a couple of issues that are very important to me that are smaller issues.
I vote for women's issues, racial justice issues and pre-K and K-12 education.
Creating a better economy and more good jobs by improving our infrastructure and actively encouraging manufacturing. I like the idea of the national infrastructure bank.
We have to help small communities that are devastated by job loss (coal, in particular) with training and new jobs.
Better access to capital for minorities and small communities and others who are often left behind.
More pre-K programs, especially for children whose parents work and for those at risk (and there are so many at risk right now). The best investment we can make is in the youngest children when they are most affected by a good learning environment.
Leveling the playing field of the schools. There should not be poor schools and wealthy schools. Teachers should be supported and valued. Children with disabilities should get more help, not just tested to the point where they cry. Teachers should have a say in what happens in their schools and classrooms.
Getting rid of the most odious voter ID laws and implementing automatic voter registration.
Defending a woman's right to choose and supporting Planned Parenthood.
Sorry this took so long, as I'm doing something else at the same time.

(4,451 posts)Best and most qualified EVER. She has been the MOST transparent. All taxes disclosed.. Taxes are important Hillary released back to 92. I hate LIARS and people who HIDE truths about themselves. Everything about Hillary is out and then some.

(456 posts)Somethings fishy is going on. Sanders supporters are working overtime on DU to excuse it, but he and Jane are hiding something. Going to be a sad day when they find out the emperor has no cloths.

Interesting where your concern lies.

(6,476 posts)its funny but Clinton is the ONLY transparent candidate releasing all of the Clinton Income tax returns (with Schedules) since 1992-NOBODY ELSE HAS-yet she's allegedly the one hiding something. After reading the outrageously uninformed comments from Sanders supporters about common business/estate concepts like "flow through" corps, "pour over" trusts" and private foundations its no wonder why no one wants to release any tax returns. All it does is invite the stupid comments of the uninformed usually based on articles coming from right-wing websites like the Washington Examiner or Washington Free Beacon. None of these issues raise an eyebrow from informed practitioners in these areas

(548 posts)Democrat. Sanders is not a Democrat and neither are most of his supporters. He cannot be trusted to fulfill the wishes of the Democratic Party.

(27,787 posts)... get very little done.
His supporters demand no compromises be made.
They, like the GOP, prefer the government do nothing if it won't do exactly what they want.
The founders of this country set up a form of government which pretty much forces compromises in which almost no one gets everything they want.
And the GOP would happily allow Bernie to do nothing. And his angriest supporters here would cheer him for doing nothing too.

(42,334 posts)For her many accomplishments and her intelligence and warmth.
I support her candidacy. I do not agree with everything she has said and done because I am a grown up and I know no one is perfect.
BTW, I feel the same way about President Obama. Love him, admire him, think he's the best president in my lifetime. Haven't agreed with everything he's done.

(32,710 posts)I look at Bernie and see a lifelong politician who hasn't accomplished anything other than great YouTube soundbytes.
And now at nearly 80 years old, he wants to try to lead the nation...but when asked questions, he's testy and clearly clueless on how to implement his platform.
Not a single one of his colleagues has endorsed him.
So why on earth should I support him?
