2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo now we oppose the phrase corporate whore more than the fact?
Some people need to check themselves and examine what they really stand (or lie down) for.

The second, her Doug Coe cult "christian" religion based on money and promoting the wealthy that she has proven herself on re policy.

Hillary on the other hand supported Alison Grimes for Senate. Alison Grimes opposed the assault weapons ban. Grimes is a card carrying member of the NRA.
Funny how Hillary doesn't care about the NRA and the assault weapons ban when she's supporting other candidates..

(56,582 posts)Though even just from a purely horse-race standpoint I think the Sanders campaign really needs to process the fact that the word "corporate" isn't remotely as bad a word to most of the country as it is to Sanders's base.

(3,040 posts)Because if there is outrage about the term, that 'controversy' shadows the significance of what was said and everyone just focuses on the term whore and no one looks into how there are paid for politicians that don't care about their constituents just big corps.

What else are they supposed to say? This rally plus Bernie's huge endorsement today plus Bernie standing with the Verizon employees that were on strike they should be feeling a little nervous.

It had to be ASTRONOMICAL I know because she's the undeniable front runner and all but official candidate for the Democratic Party so therefore EXTREMELY Popular. Just not sure why I can't recall her gigantic Bernie beating rally attendance. The number must have been so large it boggled my mind and I forgot.

(29,257 posts)The Democratic Party is also infiltrated with money-seeking, for-hire scumbags that sell out the people in order to raise money to keep their cushy lifestyles.
Can we please deal with that and recognize that THAT is what is more important than castigating people for use of some words.

(29,257 posts)But it is a wide world, with people of different ages.

If you have some sort of time stamp proof that your boogie man Brock had started it before anybody else, I would be happy to look at it.
Also, the idea that somebody in the media capital of the world could say that in front of tens of thousands of people and it not become an instant story with all those people and their telephones is kind of ludicrous, don't you think?

(9,313 posts)I wish Paul Song hadn't used the term.
Mainly, the use of the term at a candidate's rally is so unfortunate because it is likely to end up being "the story," and a big distraction from what matters.
It was bad judgment and poor taste, but I don't actually see it "hurting" Bernie. I don't think the use of the term will cause many people to be genuinely outraged. And the ones fomenting all the supposed "outrage" are already voting against Bernie.
Paul Song has apologized. I wasn't familiar with him, but it looks like he has been a positive force. (e.g., executive dir. courage campaign https://www.couragecampaign.org/who-we-are). I'd cut him some slack.

(8,352 posts)front lines here in America during our medical crisis.
We are the only civilized nation with out medical care for all of its citizens. We have an insurance mandate that raises rates and still millions are without coverage and care. We have a pharma industry that charges Americans many times over what a drug is costing those outside of our country. We are rapidly degenerating into a third world nation with the state of our healthcare and the ill health of our citizens.
Why are we like this? Because of the fucking corporate whores in both parties. Yes, they are in both parties.
I wish he had not apologized. Instead I wish he or someone would say hell no I am not apologizing. I will not apologize for you taking offense at a damned word and not being offending by the state of medical care and medical costs in this country.

Shaming the left on being PC hits us where we are vulnerable because WE CARE that much to pause and look in the mirror to check ourself, and they know it!

(62,277 posts)In particular, what has she done different from men in government?
The US, by its nature, is corporatist, read the Federalist papers, Hamilton won the debate over Jefferson.
To use the word "whore" in this context is a practice in either ignorance or sexism. I expect the former because most people using this charged language wouldn't know our history for shit.
Prism
(5,815 posts)Because the idea is that women should be treated equally as a man. We call men corporate whores all the time. If Hillary is referenced as such, she is receiving what her male peers do. Equality!
Those who disagree say that Hillary should not receive the same treatment as her male counterparts.
After many years of feminist thought and theory, I'm trying to figure out how the very first sentiment of Feminism is not understood.
Clinton is being treated the same as her male counterparts. This is a success!
But now it isn't.
Hmm. I don't think education sticks all the time.
