Washington Post Reporter Doxxed For Writing Critical Article About Bernie Sandersby Alex Griswold | 1:29 pm, April 19th, 2016
Washington Post reporter Philip Bump faced a deluge of criticism on social media after he wrote an article that angered Bernie Sanders supporters, with one troll even posting his home address on Twitter.
Needless to say, they let Bump know how they felt. By the end of the day, Id received thousands of negative tweets, negative comments on Facebook, and any number of emails Bump wrote Tuesday. Someone called my editor to complain. Someone else posted my home address on Twitter.
Neither I nor anyone else writing critically about Sanders deserves the sort of response that has been received, he said. No, Twitter isnt life. But irrational fury that leads to abusive behavior isnt the sort of thing that should be ignored.

(4,960 posts)these people write and put something out there, why do they feel the need to complain when "people" respond. There are complainers everywhere. Some are professional trolls. Surely as a reporter with a newspaper, they can suck it up a little. What a bunch of crybabies. Too bad they aren't a woman and can't cry sexism.

(3,937 posts)took it upon themselves to be rude online, maybe. Meanwhile what happened to Sarandon was gaslighting by professionals.
Their techniques are now so transparent they are obvious to all and the butt of jokes, panel #3 here:

(99,710 posts)They called the wrong guy's boss.
How did he know?
Because the guy who doxed him was bragging but his boss wasn't called.

No wonder the WaPo is falling into the birdcage liner category. They don't understand today's lexicon.
Merely posting someone's home address isn't being doxed. That's not all that hard to find.
Merely complaining about someone's crappy article isn't being doxed. That's what happens when you're in the public eye.
Did they post his bank statements? No. His credit card numbers? No. Did they out his family? No.
God, WaPo - get with the times.

(3,297 posts)Especially addresses, which are used for SWATTING and other, less likely to be deadly forms of harassment. Someone took the time to 1.) find his address and 2) publicize it, which I think is the textbook definition of doxxing. You can think that WaPo is the shilliest bunch of shills who ever shilled, but "doxxed" is certainly how I'd describe that.
