2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAbout the President being on the Morning Joe show on Monday. I'm speculating of course:
This is the beginning of the MSM or at the very least, Joe, Mika and crew starting to slant towards the re-election of the President. The numbers do not lie and they all know it. MJ pretty much sets the tone for MSNBC for most of the daily shows, sanity returns with Bashir. I'm thinking, in order to save face, Joe and crew will start to talk up President Obama and board the Obama train. I could be way off, but Joe does like being a "winner" and I'm thinking even he knows, as do his bosses, the numbers do not lie. The President will be re-elected and they want to be on the "winning team" of journalists. Whatcha all think?

(62,401 posts)I would bet Joe wants to be the guy that takes the President down.

(22,132 posts)(and the campaign said he wasn't doing any these last two weeks). So I think this is really a big deal for Morning Joe and they don't want to blow it.

(40,199 posts)Joe has been in a piss poor mood the last few days and made an attempt at Kremlin style reporting, but at the end of the day he has a brain. I have little good to say about him, but I think when you peel away the exterior he has an attachment to his credibility. If he throws his hat in with the republican circle jerk he will end up looking like another republican dolt when Romney loses. I think he wants to hedge his bets.

(1,828 posts)They'll be very respectful and interested in drawing out fantastic, intelligent details from our president.
Then they'll recut every sentence so they can spin it all out of context and hammer him with it until the election.
I loathe them with every fiber of my being.
I like your scenario better, but I'm a cynic. Sigh.

(30,058 posts)I would be surprised if Joe will try and destroy the president. Joe knows the RNC lacked and the GOP has. Real uphill battle on it's hands.

(1,828 posts)Joe could try all he wanted. He is so far from being a match for our president. That would be hilarious. I'd pay to see him try that, the squinty eyed bully that he is.

Oh, wait! I guess he is.

(3,335 posts)Joe Scarborough while critical of Romney earlier this year is still entrenched in the Romney camp. He spent Friday morning on the Romney 'momentum' train and takes ever opportunity to play up Romney and while giving no such due to the President. He's constantly talking about Obama's job approval being below 50% and no president ever having won with a Job Approval below 50% even thought the presidents Job Approval have been hovering around 50% for some time. He also was talking about how the President has lost all his 8-15% lead with women voters and how Mitt leads in the national polls as if that's anything since Obama is leading in most of the swing states.
Scarborough is no fan of Obama, though Mika is. Scarborough now claims to be a big fan of President Clinton and fawns all over him but not so much with Obama. I'm sure he will be cordial with the President during his visit to the show, but I don't expect that he will experience any of Romney's flip/flops and suddenly be an advocate for Obama since he disagrees with much of Obama's policies as a conservative.

(61,690 posts)He doesn't like him that much or trust him. Even though he dislikes Obama, he doesn't despise him, and would rather play opposition to him and spend M-F mornings criticizing him than defending the clueless, disengaged, spoiled rich, cult-member.

(7,960 posts)I'm loving the fact that Obama's giving interviews to conservative hosts. Bring your A game, Barak and throw a bit of charm their way and they'll be eathing out of your hand.

(106 posts)It's on very early, sets the tone for the week. Either Obama gets soft treatment OR the coverage gets buried by polls and storm news. NO MSNBC reporter will be able to say the President does not give interviews. May push Romney into doing it Or not. I see it as a win win for the President. Seems like a centrist move to me.
